Thye still use this version in one of my schools but I can't get it to run on a Win7 Home Premium machine

 

Just in case someone somewhere has managed to do this .... - please let me know :)O

I just checked - it's the 64 bit version of win 7 premium, so that's prob the diff

 

Can't use an alternative as report assist 2006 is the thing they all use in this school

Have you tried installing RA2006 to a different folder outside of the protected Program Files location? We use RA2009 here with no issues on Windows 7 Pro but run the app as Administrator under compatibility settings.

We got it to work by having it installed on a network drive. Then just running it as an administrator once on the workstation.

You could copy the files to a folder on C:\ , change the access rights to allow users all rights to that folder, create a shortcut to the program in the folder and try that. It might work, but I seem to recall that ReportAssist did some weird 'hooking' into the OS for it's skinning system (used on some versions of ReportAssist) so you might have problems dependant on which ReportAssist you have with an x64 OS. If you get it to work then double check things like the scroll bars, minimise, maximise, resize, etc - you don't want it to crash when writing reports.

Another way would be to use the free Windows XP emulator that Microsoft provide for Win7. There is a mode that provides seamless emulation called 'Windows XP mode':

With XP mode you don't have to have an XP licence, Microsoft provide one for free, you might have to be running a premium or Pro version of 7 though?

 

If you go down the emulator route, I myself prefer VirtualBox to the Microsoft emulator, but I don't think it has a seamless mode and you also need a Windows XP licence as one isn't provided with that.
