RabbieBurns Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Any idea what this is. Its showing up in my firewall logs as using over a gig of downloads a day.
ZeroHour Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Tons of things use akamai as mirroring around the world. Is this at home or work? What av do you have as some AV uses that. Any url strings?
TheMinister Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 deploy.akamaitechnologies.com is used to cache a lot of authors updates.
RabbieBurns Posted June 16, 2011 Author Posted June 16, 2011 this is at work. for example, out of yesterdays top 10 sites by volume were: a125-56.205-112.deploy.akamaitechnologies.com a125-56.204-34.deploy.akamaitechnologies.com a125-56.205-131.deploy.akamaitechnologies.com a125-56.205-75.deploy.akamaitechnologies.com a125-56.204-128.deploy.akamaitechnologies.com a125-56.204-82.deploy.akamaitechnologies.com a125-56.204-114.deploy.akamaitechnologies.com We have sophos which is managed through the enterprise console, and windows updates are done through WSUS.
TheMinister Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 If you can see which computers are accessing these sites, you'd probably find that they are your WSUS server and SOPHOS console caching updates.
chazzy2501 Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 I 'Think' I always see them when I download isos from Microsoft.
Sylv3r Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 BBC iPlayer / News content - seem to use the akamai servers heavily.
mb2k01 Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Yep, it is any of the following (and probably quite a few more!) - Microsoft Update, AV updates (Symantec Endpoint's live update was featuring heavily for me), iPlayer. Basically, if you see it, dont worry to much about it
