Jobos Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Is anyone using the HP Pro 4000 machines for admin work? We're after a couple and the price looks attractive.
john Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 I have used some of the high end Pro machines (used for Video Editing) and they are very nice bits of kit, so I would say go for them, HP kit is usually bulletproof and has the right warranty / very cheap upgrades to higher warranty levels. 1

(hence the retail licenses) I've now got a department of 2 1/2 with 800 pc's which means i can get 500 without licenses (300 on this order). half the budget and a better network! I then only have to buy the machines in a couple of years with os's (the extra ones i added in 2 summers ago) But next time i might look to splash the cash and get retail licenses as it will save in the long run (might be over 5/6 years but our head appreciates things like that!)

They have been phenomenally reliable, we've got 2 suites of DC7600s that have now been out of warranty for over a year. Only parts we've had to shell out for were a couple of hard drives (which is lucky since they're the only standard part).

Yes thats the other problem with the HP stuff - i know it normally doesn't fail but if you happen to get a mobo go out of warranty its can be really expensive! But saying that i had a load of HP's at my last place where where really good. Plus all my switching/servers etc is HP

In the days of ATX you'd allways end up with a few Frankenstein computers which could give you problems with imaging. We also use ProCurve switches. Bloody brilliant.
