lynne_pattison Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 We have started our new school year this week. Now when I log into SIMS, I get the following message, and my Homepage doesn't display. 'An error occurred configuring the home page. Object Reference not set to an instance of an object''. We have tried re-installing SIMS on my laptop, and I have logged onto other machines, and still get the message. I have also tried removing all of the panels from my homepage configuration, but it won't let me save it. Can anyone suggest anything that I can try?
Brucy Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 What time periods are you looking at? if the panels are set to previous year/fortnight that might be the problem
lynne_pattison Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 They are looking at the previous school year, but I am the only person having the problem, and it won't let me go back to the default setting and reconfigure the panels.
JaTayler Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 You probably already have this but take a look here: Hot Topics If you have a fault code, there is a topic with all the codes in there - might have your fault listed. If not, there are a load of other categories available, they might have a KB entry in there...?
vikpaw Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 (edited) That's a really useful link, shame it's not searchable. A fault code usually only occurs when there is a SIMS Exception and it throws you out of the application. I don't think this is happening here, or is it? The best way to search a fault code is to click on the search for solution button when the pop up appears or append "=" and the code to the URL at the following link: http://support.capitaes.co.uk/websupport/faultcodes.aspx?fcode Edited June 10, 2011 by vikpaw '=' wasn't part of link. 1
lynne_pattison Posted June 10, 2011 Author Posted June 10, 2011 I don't have an error code, just the message which I started the thread with. I am our Data Manager, and have access to pretty much every area. Everything was fine on Monday, but on Tuesday we began our new Academic Year, and I now can't access my Homepage. I appear to be the only person on site who has the problem.
vikpaw Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 I got that lynne. I've seen it somewhere before but i dont recall what the issue was. I'm pretty sure it was that the user was newly added or something had changed and they didn't have the correct permissions to something. We use custom permissions groups so it can happen a lot. It's the one where you get no panels at all and just a message in the middle right? or is it a pop up? What is the error you get when trying to reconfigure, there should be something in the bottom left in red which will help..
lynne_pattison Posted June 13, 2011 Author Posted June 13, 2011 Hi Vik, Yes, I get the message in a box in the middle of the screen, and then no panels appear on my homepage. If I try to make any configuration changes, and save them, I get a box in the middle of the screen saying 'Unable to configure Homepage'. It is really annoying now, and I am wondering if I may need to have my SIMS id recreated.
lynne_pattison Posted June 13, 2011 Author Posted June 13, 2011 This is the second year, that we have started our new Academic year in June. Must admit it does cause issues in certain areas.
matt40k Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 I would try another SIMS user on your workstation (logged onto Windows as your user on your machine), does this work?
lynne_pattison Posted June 13, 2011 Author Posted June 13, 2011 It does. It only seems to be my SIMS id that is affected, unfortunately
matt40k Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 And have you logged onto SIMS as your SIMS user on another workstation as another Windows user - which you haven't logged onto before.
lynne_pattison Posted June 13, 2011 Author Posted June 13, 2011 No. I will do that tomorrow. I raised my problem here, and on Supportnet, in the hope that someone could suggest something simple.
vikpaw Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Just in case it is a permissions thing, add yourself to another group. It doesn't matter what it is, on save this should enforce all other options and maybe sort it. Class teacher is a good one if you don't already have it.
lynne_pattison Posted June 14, 2011 Author Posted June 14, 2011 Thanks Vik. Have now tried that, but sadly still have the problem.
matt40k Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 I would image they would recreate your account, problem is you're account is linked to P7 so I'm guessing it'll be a site specific patch... at a guess.
vikpaw Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 If that's the case, no harm in deleting your user in system manager / making it obsolete or whatever the option is called. Then readding again, and reassigning all permissions. Even just removing all permissions and adding again may fix it.
vikpaw Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 It's day one of my new year, and i came in to admit new students and i'm getting this error too. Couldn't see anything on solution search on SupportNet, did you get a resolution Lynne?

Couldn't see anything on solution search on SupportNet, did you get a resolution Lynne? We have this in one school. Capita solution is detach database and reattach. Not tried it and we are waiting a call for a better solution.
