Windows SBS 2008 R2 vs 2011.

Hey guys, I hope this is the right place to ask this.

 

Soon we will be buying and setting up some new servers for some clients and I see that our supplier has servers with Windows SBS Standard 2011 available as well as some with Windows SBS Standard 2008 R2, which is our current standard.

 

I can't seem to find any data sheets on the matter but I'm hoping someone here might have a comparison between the two.

 

I do have an evaluation copy of 2011 but sadly, I don't have any time to go through and find the improvements and differences.

2011 is the W7 version of it as a simple way of putting it so its Exchange 2010, SQL 2008 R2, latest Sharepoint Foundation stuff etc Its very nice as I have a friend using it and helped him out with it the other day

As per what john has said really, I have an SBS2011 Machine running here as I like to keep tabs on these kind of things. It is pretty much the Windows 7 version (Like to R2 Version of Server 2008) and has Exchange 2010, SQL 2008 R2 and SharePoint 2010 Foundation.

 

The look and feel of the SBS Console is exactly the same nothing special to worry about there, It's just the Exchange/SharePoint Parts you will need to just have a play with more than anything.

 

There is also a nice wizard to help you migrate from SBS2008

I have not had chance to look over the Tech Sheets that have been released, but nothing really that i have found so far. It is more RAM hungry but that is because of the new updated services (and we all now SBS likes RAM anyway).

 

Server 2008 R2 was the new Windows 7 of Servers.
