pritchardavid Posted June 4, 2011 Report Posted June 4, 2011 (edited) Seems the server as decided to update the exchange 2010 sp1 rollup 2 to rollup 3 v3 Its seems to have failed. Anyideas how to get this all working again? All the services can run except the transport service. Run I try to run this it takes a while, then it stops itself I have also removed the ForeFront Protection 2010 for Exchange to see if that was a problem or not. I also disabled it before removing it, using the command line I have tried to reinstall the rollup 2 update (the rollup 3 is not installed, not in the list of installed updated, while rollup 2 is) But when I do this when it tries to stop the services, it then rolls back This is the same when I attempt to install rollup 3 v3 I thought to remove the hub transport, but the setup compained about having 2 send connectors on the server, cant use the console, because it wont connect to the server, so can't write down what the current send connectors are and also delete them, so I can remove the hub transport and then attempt to install it again. Again if I try to remove the Client Access Role to reinstall it, I get an error on that on to - 'Unable to read data from the Metabase. Ensure that Microsoft Information Services is installed' Any ideas would be very greatful.... Dreading Monday if this aint fixed getting annoyed at this already. If anyone is upto it and dont mind looking, I can give u remote connection to have a look. Many thanks Edited June 4, 2011 by pritchardavid
irsprint84 Posted June 4, 2011 Report Posted June 4, 2011 I had problems with FP 2010 for exchange causing issues, cant remember how I fixed it but I can have a look if you want? 1
pritchardavid Posted June 4, 2011 Author Report Posted June 4, 2011 I dont think it's forefront causing the issue anymore, I disabled it through a command line, uninstalled it, deleted all the registry entries I could find using the find tool with the wors searched for was forefront. Alos deleted the install folders where it installed to. I thinking the update crashed and as some newer build file and some old build of files. All I can think of at the momment But like you set still could be forefront Anyone can look if they want?
irsprint84 Posted June 4, 2011 Report Posted June 4, 2011 OK, I m just installing rollup 3 on my home test machine
bart21 Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 I had this problem with rollup 2. In the end I had to call the update through an elevated powershell prompt. Nick
FragglePete Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 I had problems with Security Rollups on Exchange 2007, the problem I found was the remote BackUp Exec Exchange Agent was causing the update to hang. Stopped all the services for the agent first and rollups have gone through no problem since. Pete
pritchardavid Posted June 5, 2011 Author Report Posted June 5, 2011 might have just solved the problem! Seems one of the iis services was disabled (iis admin) all the services did get disabled when the upgrade failed, this one I must of missed out
pritchardavid Posted June 5, 2011 Author Report Posted June 5, 2011 maybe not error on owa when you click continue on the security certificate https://mail.theockendonacademy.com/owa/
TheMan100 Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 (edited) Have you tried rebooting the IIS web server? Also, there may be something in the IIS logs about the error. This may be of some help as well http://support.microsoft.com/kb/293386 Can you access your inbox via Outlook? Edited June 5, 2011 by TheMan100
pritchardavid Posted June 5, 2011 Author Report Posted June 5, 2011 tbh I havent Seen the trasport role can start without an error since I reinstalled the role, throught I'll do the same with the client access role. Will not reinstall the database role of course hopefully after that it will work, then I can the the update to rollup 3 manually

pritchardavid Posted June 5, 2011 Author Report Posted June 5, 2011 all fixed now Thanks irsprint84 Something I should of thought about - JUst the case of needing to reinstall forefront and disable the exchange antispam
irsprint84 Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 all fixed now Thanks irsprint84 Something I should of thought about - JUst the case of needing to reinstall forefront and disable the exchange antispam Yeah, it was to do with both exchange's default antispam and forefront being installed at same time, moral of the story is transport service can be a pain in the backside!
irsprint84 Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 Well more that when exchange screws up it can be awful! only one that is worse is fixing sharepoint with every error for sharepoint being 'unknown error' I m really looking at using live@edu to get rid of my exchange
pritchardavid Posted June 5, 2011 Author Report Posted June 5, 2011 Yer I was looking at live@edu. but doesnt look easy to convert over. I was looking at sharepoint that is one piece of confussing software!
