I know there are a few fellow bikers here, and I need some help...

I've got a 2001 Honda Blackbird that I brought just over the year ago after being with a '96 VFR750 for 9 years. I loved the VFR, but it was getting old and the Blackbird was naturally the next step but to be honest, I'm not enjoying it.

Can't put my finger on it, the Blackbird does everything; smooth, fast & handles beautifully but just doesn't give me the involvment my VFR did. I think its more 'sports' than it is 'touring' and really want the balance to be the other way. Everytime I look at the Blackbird it just looks lovely and what I think a bike should be but just not enjoying it. So, I've decided to sell the Blackbird and get something that will be a little bit more..... involving.

Any suggestions? I'm looking at things like a BMW F800ST (sort of Wild Card), love the look on the Moto Guzzi Griso, but the 8V version is too new and out of my price range, the VFR1200 is also too new and well out of the price bracket and I'm even looking at the VFR800 VTECs as these are now becoming affordable, but I vowed never to get one as I believe it went against everything the VFR was at the time.

I want more Grunt than top speed, I loved the V4 engine of the VFR and love the thump of V-Twins - just something with character.

Just having a crisis really, just so upset that my Dreambike at the time, the Blackbird just hasn't been what I thought it was.

I'm also an Ex VFR70 rider. I gave mine up for a BMW R1150R tractor. Definitely more grunt than speed.

I'd get a Tiger 1050 now ;)

Triumph Sprint? Apparently a good ride but with the touring aspect. 1050cc triple, my unattainable dream at the moment.

EDIT: Although a Beemer is on my secret list :D

Try a ZX-6R B1H, £2700 soon to be with 12months test and 6 months tax. ;)

I guess that would your ZX-6R your trying to sell then!?! :D Not my bag I'm afraid. I'm seriously looking at a Suzuki V-Strom now, but I may push for the DL-1000 instead on the DL-650. But I'll need to sell the 2001 Y-Reg Honda CBR1100XX Blackbird with new MoT and service with just 15k miles on the clock for £3200 ono first!!! ;)

Pete,

Have you tried a Triumph Tiger 1050? I would seriously recommend test riding one before going out and getting a V-Strom. The V-Strom does have a solid twin lump, however you will notice a big difference in build quality compared to the Tiger. Tigers are triples, however they provide the best of both worlds - plenty of performance combined with a great riding position and lovely handling.
