Just about to setup a 2008R2 server. currently have 1 2003 DC to be removed.

On my old 2003 server I copy the \support\adprep folder from the dvd to the server.

Q1. do I run adprep.exe or adprep32.exe?

Then I adprep.exe /forestprep

Then I adprep.exe /domainprep

Q2. do I need to run adprep.exe /domainprep /gpprep or is this just for multi DC environment?

Any other advice

if it's a 32-bit server then run adprep32, if it's 64 bit run adprep

q2, yes run it

I would also run /rodcprep just to stop the whinging in 2008 R2 server manager

order does make a diff (you can just do adprep32.exe /domainprep /gpprep dont need to do it twice) i think thats the right order but it will say if its not

peronally i wouldnt bother with rodcprep im never going to have a rodc i will just click naff off to the message

Instead of 2008R2, what if 2003 R2 (64bit) adding, what are the steps to be taken ?

youre adding a 2003r2 server to a 2003 r2 2 domain just run adprep
