Hello all,

 

We are currently using RM Easymail, but I am trying to convince my schools SLT to move to Live@edu.

 

I would like to hear from some schools that have implemented live@edu in their schools, if you are from the Gloucestershire area - would I be able to visit?

 

SLT are mainly concerned about the monitoring side of the software, e.g. can we view student emails and skydrives?

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We have live@edu for our staff. you cannot view emails with it. We currently use Zimbra where as an admin you can log in as the user and view their emails, not that I have ever had to.

Are you aware of the Multi-Mailbox Search feature? Multi-Mailbox Searches

You could set up rule(s) to send a copy of every email sent/received to a student Live@edu email address to another Live@edu (or any other) email account that you could monitor, in combination with the Multi-Mailbox search.

 

The Multi-Mailbox search will not show you the contents of the email, only the datetime stamp, subject and to/from fields.

 

Of course, the amount of emails available (and time period) would be dependant on the amount of emails being sent/received upto the limit of the mail account being used for capturing.

To extend that period of time, you could create a group (and create a capture email capture account / rule) for each year group.

You could even create a closed campus rule just for the student email accounts.

 

Not 100% ideal solutions, but combined with your School's AUP / Safeguarding policy etc you would cover most areas.

I was under the impression that Live@edu is hosted Exchange, with all the functionality that offers. Exchange lets you add permissions to any mailbox so that another user has full access to it if desired. You probably need to use Powershell to configure it but I'm pretty sure the ability is there.

You do need to use PowerShell, yes. connect to another mailbox - Outlook Live Answers

 

Live@edu is driven by Exchange 2010 SP1 at the back end, it is effectively hosted Exchange but not every function available in an on-premise environment is available in 'the cloud'.

You cannot view people's SkyDrive's without changing their password though.
