hi there, tried that one and many others, just seem to not be getting something right...

 

i really need someone that gave give me a idea of what i need. looked at so many forum posts. trying to work out were the issuse lies.

 

being a RM school, we dont really use the AD side of things raw. so CN= DC= OU=

we are quiet new to it all.

I'll need to know more about how RM handles users so could you give me a full distinguished name of a typical user?

the AD side of things is setup as folders

Schoolname.internal

Establishments

ABC

Students

 

does that answer what you need? if not how do i find out?

If you have access to adsiedit this will give you all the CNs for OUs and Users.

right what i've tried is

LDAP encoding utf-8

 

Bind settings

Hide password: YES

Distinguished name

CN=rm,OU=System Administrators,OU=CHS,OU=Estabishments,DC=ourdomain,DC=internal

 

User lookup settings

 

User type MS ActiveDirectory

 

Contexts OU=Students,OU=CHS,OU=Establishments,DC=ourdomain,DC=internal

 

and the error i get is,

LDAP-module cannot connect to any servers: Server: 'chs-sr-001', Connection: 'Resource id #44', Bind result

 

 

anyone shed any light on this?

try putting ldap://10.28.x.xx and possibly the default ldap port on the end, so ldap://10.28.x.xx:389

Don't let it worry you that you're running an RM network. Active Directory is still there running at the core of it, as well as all other critical server services.

 

Active Directory is located in Administrative Tools on the Start Menu. It'll look more 'messy' than a standard Active Directory domain, however once you've worked it out, you should be able to get LDAP working.

 

I would probably recommend installing Moodle on a member server, free of RM's tools to ensure it works correctly, rather than on the DC itself. You could also look into your LA hosting it. LDAP is still possible.

I think I ended up using user@domain.internal for the bind username.

Ther error you are getting is literally saying Moodle can't communicate with AD.

 

Have you punched the necessary holes for the two servers to communicate with each other?

Without knowing your network setup, I can't help.

 

Basically your internal AD cannot communicate with your Moodle server, suggesting there's a block somewhere in the network or that permissions to access the servers have not been allowed.

well the machine with moodle on, is on the domain... and im using a network username and password. also the machine can access the server with the ad, by \\servername.

 

do i need to do anything else?
