Just got my shiny new EEEPad

I ordered the EEEPad Transformer last week, despite Ebuyer saying it was on pre-order and wouldn't ship til 1st June.

Arrived this morning and have left it charging while having a quick play.

Feels very slick. Android 3.0.1 on it, with the Asus keyboard utility which has a tap and swype version in one.

Haven't plugged the docking keyboard in yet but it looks a nice size keyboard to type on too.

 

I didn't want to go for an iPad (as the advert says, I don't have an iPad so I don't have an iPad) and I already have an EEEPC so like the Asus build quality. Definitely recommend it from the hour or so I've played :)

yup gave up on amazon and ordered on from comet on friday got it saturday.

 

Ive found a few apps that give me issues (mainly as i think they are written for android 2.x so the real radio one for instance just bombs i think its looking to hook into music player in a way 2.x supported but 3.x dosent) and google maps likes to just exit sometimes get to about where you want to go and get returned to the desktop.

 

Build wise its made like a tank looks like you could drop it and at worst make a mark (not that i have or am going to try it) the screen is clear and bright though i have 2 minor issues its impossible to keep clean and auto brightnes can be a bit odd.

 

it will stream divx's from my win7 pc over wifi quite happily audio and video are in sync and no stutttttter (using upnplay and rockplayer lite)

 

keyboard is good for a keyboard that size (its quite weird to see a device say charging when there is no mains plug)

 

so apart from a few apps not being geared towards honeycomb (and i think the last update to google maps on my phone is similar) its a good bit of kit polaris office even seems quite usable as well. Wondering if i should of hung on for a 32gb 3g version though but i can always shove an sd card (or 2) in it and tether it to my phone (in theory not tried)

ive just installed an RDP util too, so can now RDP to our servers and control them properly too.

haven't tested streaming media yet, will do that at home.

 

i do like the keyboard the more i use it. and i know what you mean about auto brightness, id left it on and thought "ill just see what full brightness is like" and nearly burnt my retinas out! :D

 

just need to find some active directory management apps so i can do password resets etc. i know impero is working on an android console app, so eagerly awaiting that :D

i found the opposite with autobright i couldnt see the screen it was that dim

 

yup rdp seems to work though the app ive got seems to be much happier with ips than names

erm you can try but they are still in short supply esp if you want a keyboard

read some reviews on this yesterday, looks like great git, very nice UI. Always been a fan of android and having had a I-Phone 3GS, a G1 and G2/hero in that order my best phone has been the android units.

second day of using it and it still feels very slick. slight lag on typing with the keyboard at times, but its minimal. everything else working fine. have had it on and off most of yesterday and standby overnight and on today and its gone from 100% to 65%. and thats with fairly heavy usage and wifi on constantly

What keyboard are you using? I found the asus one to be slightly laggier than the std one (keyboard button in bottom when keyboard up to choose), although asus one has numbers at the top, which is handy.

 

Most i've had is 4 days not using it much, but it'll go about 10 hours of constant use.

 

Constantly cleaning it tho.

im using the physical keyboard at the moment which lags when typing into google search or market search. when i do use the on screen one its the asus one i think (as you say, with numbers on top).

have just changed to the std keyboard and can touch type on it about as fast as i can on the pc. slight mis-spellings here and there but i can definitely get a good speed up. wouldn't be possible with the asus one as it would prbably kick in the swype facility if you go too fast.

I think the Transformer is going to be my next big purchase. I just need to find a buyer for my Samsung NC10 to help fund it.

 

So if anyone wants a decent cheap netbook in very good condition, let me know:

 

Samsung NC10:

1.6Ghz Atom CPU

1Gb DDR2 RAM

B/G Wifi

10.1 inch screen

Webcam

Windows XP (Recovery Partition) - It runs Windows 7 well though.

the keyboard is definitely a good purchase. it has function keys for home and back, along with keys to control brightness, open settings and lock the device. it could definitely be replacing my eeepc. the only thing is i like having the windows 7 option on the eeepc so that might stay at home as a backup device :)

The Keyboard is worth it... The ability just to plug in a datastick or to quickly charge it via the base... Let alone sending long boring work related emails.

 

My partner as always... impressed by what I had bought myself... went out bought herself one. My only annoyance as a continuing android fan is the lack of inbuilt Proxy support as i'm sure is with the rest of you when at work.... and I just don't fancy rooting it yet.

proxy support is part of 3.1 aparantly

Been running the Rooted US leak since release on my WW TF101, I quite like the the additional features however no sign of Proxy support, which is quite sad, the ability to resize widgets is very useful and video playback is alot better now.

apparently (taken from a zoom tab)

 

Users can now configure an HTTP proxy for each individual Wi-Fi access point, by touch-hold of the access point in Settings. The browser uses the HTTP proxy when communicating with the network over the access point and other apps may also choose to do so. Android 3.1 also provides backup and restore of the user-defined IP and proxy settings. The platform adds support for Preferred Network Offload (PNO), a background scanning capability that conserves battery power savings in cases where Wi-Fi needs to be available continuously for long periods of time.
