I've been getting excited all week about today as I can get a new mobile phone on dinner! Only I found out that I had the date wrong and I can't upgrade it until tomorrow!

In the interests of saving a bit of cash, and not really wanting to wait 1-2 months for the Sensation (as I've almost pulled all my hair out with my current phone) I'm going for the HTC Desire HD.

Still 2.2.1 with T-Mobile, so not everyone will be able to get 2.3. It depends on your network.

I'm on O2 but you can't get the Desire HD direct from them so I will have to go via Carphone Warehouse or Phones 4 U. A quick Google search showed that from suppliers like these, the phones have generic firmwares so can be upgraded, and will receive 2.3.

Well, I upgraded yesterday evening to Android 2.3, and have had a good nosy through all the menus, settings etc and cannot find any proxy related area. I've only had the phone for 6 days, so if it's there, I may not be looking in the right areas, but it does not appear to have proxy support.

How do you know when Google have pushed out the fix for the leaky tokens? I have an HTC Desire and it's a great phone.

The Android 2.3 update on my unbranded Orange network HTC Desire HD phone now includes proxy support which is a relief TBH. Now I can safely say it is the best phone I have ever owned (including an iPhone).

 

The proxy settings are accessed under Settings > Wireless Networks > Wi-Fi Settings > MENU BUTTON (bottom of phone) > Advanced > Wi-Fi Proxy

So it appears that it's unique to Sense ROMs, fair play to HTC for being the first hardware vendor to provide proxy support, until now you've had to use custom ROMs.

 

Problem is, I now have to decide whether to stick with Oxygen, which is based on 2.3.4 but has no proxy support, or get the latest Sense ROM? I think I'll try and scour for back-ports first

I'm just waiting for the branded T-Mobile release. If it truly does increase battery life and add proxy support then I'll be one happy bunny.
