Summer 2011 Release is not long away! planned for COB 30th June.

Pre-release notes look exciting. SupportNet Document ID #17949

Highlights are in Student List Reports , FMS interface, and System Manager 7. AND Homework setting on SLG - though that's payable :(

Looking good! Seeing as we cater for Foundation Stage to Year 13, with Lower, Middle and Upper Schools, I'm liking the Tier enhancements.

And maybe the Network Manager will re-install my workstation with 64Bit Windows 7 and Office 2010...

This 'Homework' stuff in SLG; is it me or is that bordering on VLE territory? Something Capita have categorically said it isn't, and will not be? Curious...

I'll be glad when the timetable can be split by tier, which it sort of can now, if you have segregated resources. I'll bet you'll love it!

I'm still on XP, considering making it a VM before switching to Win7 or just sticking with what i've got and remote desktopping to a win7 box.

It is VLE territory, but i guess so is sharepoint, and SLG lives on that, so it's always going to be the case with anything they add. I didn't see how the homework is fed back to sims, i figured it was just stored on the sharepoint side.

I'll be over the moon when the timetable can be split by tier. In order to make it work for next year we're looking at an 18 period day and a 6 week cycle!!!

My understanding of SLG has always been that it's about enabling two way real-time [ish] communication of data between SIMS and 'the web'. It's only ever made SIMS data available, but this Homework thing is different. I, too, would like to know where it fits in SIMS.

I think there's already too much overlap between SLG and a VLE and this just increases that. You have to have both in order to get the most out of the platform, so you end up paying twice for some aspects. We're getting CLG as our VLE, but a good part of it will be redundant as we're also looking at getting SLG for it's web-parts.

I personally think Capita should take a step back with SLG, and just provide the web-parts to fit into a compatible VLE, and / or expose the communication method so that VLEs that don't run on Sharepoint have better two-way access to SIMS data.

Maybe Capita are about to develop SLG into a fully fledged VLE...

Doubt that is the case, otherwise why would they acquire Synetrix and so have OPENHIVE under their umbrella?

Tend to agree with the first point too - they should knuckle down and just concentrate on making some very sexy looking web-parts or allow you to make them sexy, rather than the somewhat dated look that SLG has always had.

Capita and sexy... two words I never thought I'll hear in the same sentence. I look forward to seeing it on the roadmap :D

Hmmm - now I'm not sure if you were actually being sarcastic as I thought or referring to something real where you are in the know. If the latter - are you able to disclose what you are alluding to? :-)

The latest news item on SupportNet from 28th June, suggests 11th July. I really hope it hasn't been pushed back further. :(

Will you ever learn? ;)

Take the first date, add 14. Wait a bit, add 7 (number approximate) that will give you some idea of the real release date. Add 10 for the safe update date. :D

So, who broke what majorly then? There was no feedback or news on SupportNet that the date was changing?! Even on the 4th the pre-release notes still said for release COB on 30th!

@PhilNeal or anyone at Capita... can you enlighten us as to whats happening?

There is a notice. It relates to the SWC and contracts.

Then you must get yourself down to a SIMS conference to see Phil in his Linen suit. ;)

Also it's Exams...

[h=2]SIMS 2011 Summer Release Date: SWC and Exams Issue[/h]

As previously communicated in a SupportNet news item, the guidance we have received from the DfE in relation to the treatment of staff contracts in the School Workforce Census (SWC) has recently changed. Now we have had further clarification, we need to resolve an issue within the School Workforce Census (SWC) software so that school contract data is reported correctly. This requires us to change the SWC software and consequently it means there will be a delay the Summer Release.

The new date for the Summer Release will be Monday 11th July 2011. We apologise for any inconvenience that this change of date might cause.

We have also identified an issue in the Exams Organiser software that concerns the correct accounting for Double Award GCSEs in the school performance summary reports. We will be including a fix for this issue in the SIMS 2011 Summer Release. As this will affect the August GCSE exam results series schools will need to have taken the SIMS 2011 Summer Release before they run any result analysis routines. In addition, we will also be releasing the fix as a patch, compatible with the SIMS 2011 Spring Release, to support those secondary schools unable to upgrade to the summer release before exams results day. This patch will be accessible in the usual fashion through the helpdesk and SOLUS3.

Then you must get yourself down to a SIMS conference to see Phil in his Linen suit. ;)

Mmm... holiday with my family or a holiday, I mean conference, with my work family... tough choice. Maybe next year :)

So what you're saying is 31st of July... which is what Mr Sayer's Capita bod said. I'm impressed, your formula works! Have you uploaded to SupportNet file sharing...?

Have to get it copyrighted first.

It's usually out just in time for exams and too late for install and upgrading of PCs prior to teacher's holidays.

The Release has been delayed because of the very late change of mind by the DfE re. their new requirements for the SWC - as stated on both the previous news items on SupportNet. We have known for a good while that there would be a delay!

The Exams problem is a different issue and, in any case, there will be a patch for this. So that can be used if the changes to SIMS for the SWC cannot be implemented in time for next week, or you want to delay taking it!
