glennda Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 this might explain a little why the playstation network has been down for so long BBC News - PlayStation hacker took user info
SYNACK Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 Awwwww, poor Sony, maybe someone put a rootkit on one of their demo cds 1
X-13 Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 I'm loving the way all the articles on this have a headline along the lines of "MILLIONS OF USERS DATA HAS BEEN STOLEN!!!" Then the first line is always "There's a possibility data may have been accessed, but we don't know for certain and won't know until PSN is back online." Reporters need to stop scaremongering.
theriver Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 I'm just looking around at the reports now and Sony themselves are stating that user information has been accessed: "Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained." from Update on PlayStation Network and Qriocity – PlayStation Blog
bondbill2k2 Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 The most annoying thing is this happened a week ago now, and only today have they admited data is missing
localzuk Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 The most annoying thing is this happened a week ago now, and only today have they admited data is missing Be fair, they simply didn't know what had happened according to their early reports. It may have taken them this long to figure out what's what...
CyberNerd Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 One word: 'encryption' it was encrypting their playstations that got them into this mess in the first place. BBC News - Sony scores against PlayStation 3 hacker Sony need to learn not to mess with the big boys
bondbill2k2 Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 it was encrypting their playstations that got them into this mess in the first place. BBC News - Sony scores against PlayStation 3 hacker Sony need to learn not to mess with the big boys It did take them 5 years since ps3's launch tho, those involved in that case claim this is nothing to do with them.
mthomas08 Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 it was encrypting their playstations that got them into this mess in the first place. BBC News - Sony scores against PlayStation 3 hacker Sony need to learn not to mess with the big boys Isnt this all "Securing it down" because of hackers in the first place??? I totally agree with them encrypting it all as much as possible and this latest incident is just fuel for the fire. I can see Sony going down a MS route and just releasing security patches every month to secure it. So to me its more like, Well done to the so called big boys who like to sit at home and "hack" all day.....
bondbill2k2 Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 but remember Microsoft have been providing subscription online gaming before sony and on a much larger scale with far more users and never had a hacking issue Sony should of tightened up a while back.
