Cools Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Here’s how the changes will work: ■New Spotify users will be able to enjoy our unrivalled free service as it is today for the first 6 months. ■As of May 1st, any user who signed up to the free service on or before November 1st 2010 will be able to play each track for free up to a total of 5 times. Users who signed up after the beginning of November will see these changes applied 6 months after the time they set up their Spotify account. ■Additionally, total listening time for free users will be limited to 10 hours per month after the first 6 months. They are probably figuring that too many people are generally happy with the adverts and not needing it on a mobile device so are sticking with the free version. It's a shame for those of us fitting into that bracket but they have to eat
EduTech Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 I was using the FREE Version but thought it would be quite handy to play it in my car also so i purchased it.. plus i kept maxing out the hours in a day or so! so was screwed for the rest of the month! LOL I had the 7 days premium FREE and then just pay the £9.99 per month. James.

Domino Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 I'm quite happy to pay for it too - there's always a few gaps in stuff I want, but on the whole it's fairly well populated. The out of country use is also pretty handy :-)

It was Shaun that talked me into doing it! and I am very pleased I did so handy for the car and the fact it auto sync's over network so no need to mess around with iTunes.
localzuk Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Another happy paying user here. Been a paid user for near enough 2 years now. £9.99 for unlimited music, and mobile access has always seemed like a good deal to me! By the same price, i could be buying about 14 albums a year. Not exactly a lot!

Its good and I use it a fair bit but it doesn't have a great selection of tracks in my fav genre- (proper) dance - so it really isn't worth,£10 to me. Ampache it is then

Google Mail's plus addressing and full-stop trick will enable you to use a single e-mail address for quite a few years. I do miss being able to look through records, picking one at (semi) random and giving it a wurl. Online stores are no good for that as if you put in "Genre = dance" the first 50 pages are dizzy rascal and 50 cent etc... Then even when you find something that looks interesting and click "listen to clip" its generally just a random 30sec clip which bares very little relevancy to the actual CD/song

A lot of my new and rediscovered artists have come from last.fm and spotify (and pandora when it was still in the UK). I think my main problem is I like "weird" stuff - "if you've heard of it, I don't like it", well not quite but you know what I mean, it should be "if your average Radio 1 guy has heard it...". Though sometimes I am pleasantly surprised by what's on offer on Spotify - for example I didn't expect to see Gui Boratto as he is a relatively unknown minimalistic guy, though he has done one or two "Radio 1" type tracks. superfletch Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 I've been a spotify "free" user for about 2 years now and I think it is absolutely great, if I had the money I'd pay for the premium account as I think the service is great, @ £10 a month though it's just too much for me to fork out. If I had a a phone I could use it on then that might be different I suppose, but it would still probably be too expensive for me. They could certainly look at adding a few different pricing models though for instance a PAYG service where £10 buys you X hours of unlimited (premium style) spotify use and you arent tied to a monthly bill. I'll certainly continue to use the free service although much more sparingly, and most of my playlists will become redundant which is irritating since I spent quite a while sorting them out a month or two ago. I suppose this was always on the cards, but I'm still sad.
