Afternoon ladies and gentlemen.

 

I seem to be having a little problem and was wondering if any of you have an any experience in this matter.

 

I have been testing a windows 7 image for some time now and have got everything working to how I would like apart from the logon screen. Currently the logon screen will display " Press CTRL + ATL + DELETE or use the Windows Secuirty Button to log on "

 

I don't want the secuity button part to show but for some reason it does. This is on a fat client HP DX2420, fresh install of windows 7 professional and service pack 1.

 

After some searching I found there is a windows feature that needs to be disabled via control panel called "tablet PC components" I have disabled that and rebooted but the message still shows at log on.

 

I have also used the local policy to remove the CTRL + ALT + DELETE feature off then on again but still the message shows.

 

Has anyone come across this before?

Have you got any smartboard software installed? Does this on all our machines which are attached to Smartboards with the Notebook software.

Pretty much this. Notebook should be part of your image as it enables that button.

That seems to make sense, smartboard software is installed with the notebook however I do have a test machine installed with windows 7 and the smart software in one of the IT rooms which doesn't have the security button on the logon screen.

You can configure the SMART Drivers to not use Tablet PC functionality. Try that through the SMART Control Panel and see if it has the desired effect. Bear in mind this does reduce the functionality of the board back to Windows XP levels, so be sure your users are happy with that.

 

It's probably ultimately a registry setting somewhere; if changing the setting in the GUI does what you're after and you can't find it,l post back and I will take a look on one of mine.

I've had a look on the smart drivers settings and can't seem to find it. The configuration tab has a red x in the middle so im assuming that you need the board connected to acces those options.

The staff here complained bitterly when an update to the SMART software introduced this message so to get around it I used a logon and log off group policy script along with this Microsoft tool:

 

The DevCon command-line utility functions as an alternative to Device Manager

 

To disable the tablet devices and enable them on logon only when needed:

 

logon:

devcon enable 57985508-6DB9-4C9C-AFF2-3A74A53298A6
devcon enable CC45A915-1CA1-4997-817F-FFB4853FA440

 

logoff:

devcon disable 57985508-6DB9-4C9C-AFF2-3A74A53298A6
devcon disable CC45A915-1CA1-4997-817F-FFB4853FA440

Sorry to dig up an old thread. But is these vbs scripts that run at log-on/log off. I can't seem to get them to work....

 

Post your script / code back and can see what or how you are trying to do this

 

You should be able to use vbs or bat ?

Place devcon in the netlogon share or a share that all domain computers have access to then just adjust your scripts to point to the relevant location

 

Enable bat file :

\\domain.org.com\netlogon$\devcon enable CC45A915-1CA1-4997-817F-FFB4853FA440

 

Disable Bat File :

\\domain.org.com\netlogon$\devcon disable CC45A915-1CA1-4997-817F-FFB4853FA440

 

Obviously adjust the path so it is correct ( just using the above as an example as far as the FQDN and netlogon share etc )

I just wanted to say thank you for this mac_shinobi - it also gets rid of the touchscreen keyboard on the login screen that I couldn't disable.

 

I actually ended up disabling the devices through a GPP rather than startup script, as student machines will never be plugged in to a board, so no need to have it enable and disable at log on/off.

Hi, Does anyone know how to do this for promethean boards? The devcon commands on this thread do not work. Thanks

 

I don't have the Promethean software installed on anything, but the Smart software loads a driver for the tablet functionality and lists it under Human Interface Devices in Device Manager. The device name has tablet in it so it's easy to find. I'm assuming that this is what that script using Devcon disables. If that is the case it should just be a matter of finding the right Promethean device to disable and using its hardware ID with Devcon. If you don't have it already, I included the x64 version of Devcon in a blog post last year here: Card Readers and Mapped Network Drives - Blogs - EduGeek.net For some reason the standalone download includes the x32 and ia64 versions, but not the x64.

Woohoo, necrobump! \o/

 

Since Promethean drivers updated to ver. 5.9 a while back, and now that we've got some touchscreen all-in-one PC's we're seeing this crop up more and more. It's not a massive issue, but it is a bit of an annoyance as none of the devices actually have a Windows Security Button.. Truth be told I don't even think I've ever encountered one.

 

All I can find on the internets is Control Panel - Tablet PC Settings, but the options mentioned just aren't there. Figured maybe there'd be a registry key or something but to no avail. Anybody any clue? Standard W7 Enterprise x64
