Hi guys,

Can someone link me to a cable that will allow me to connect this laptop hard drive to my Dell desktop so I can try and get the data off?

Many thanks in advance,

Dave.

I have tried a couple of things for the same purpose. I would advise against a 'cable' and would say you should go for a 2.5" external hard drive enclosure. Cables seem to break far too often...

I can't think of a specific brand though.

That drive according to the spec should defo be 44 pin, are you sure that the connector doesnt come off as webman has already said? Sometimes they can be on pretty tight, a small flat head screw driver and a steady hand might be your friend.

It looks like a non-standard Dell-proprietary connector so you'd need to make sure you get the right adapter.

Could you not put it in another/the same Dell laptop and use a live Linux CD (eg. Knoppix) to get the data from it?

I lie, it has come off. Apologies.

Is the connector glued on? I'm sure that should come off otherwise.

If it does - we offer the external USB enclosures for just £9.

Apologies Webman, the hard drive is out of an old Sharp laptop. I though the easiest way to try and get some data off would be to connect it to my Dell desktop. I don't have any other Sharp laptops unfortunately.

Ok, I see, sorry, partly my misunderstanding too :D

That connector should still come off the standard pins at the end - as Dan said it may be glued on. But even still, a normal 2.5" enclosure won't be any good as the connector would be incompatible with that harddrive in it's current state.

EDIT: read you've managed to remove it :D
