A quick update to post a user guide for those searching how to setup a Ubuntu LAMP Server. It's based on 6.06 LTS Server (Dapper Drake) but applies to the current version (so far! )

The first thing I spot on that howto is the enabling the root account thing. Why? There is no need to enable the root account, sudo does the job for 99.9% of things and sudo -s does the rest.

 

Also, if you are simply wanting a LAMP server then that howto covers an awful lot more than that. With ubuntu 6.06 LTS, installing a LAMP server is as simple as downloading the Server cd and choosing the LAMP option from the boot menu.
