Tray fed scanner?

We are currently in the middle of moving our finance system over to corero.

One thing they have suggested we need is a scanner to digitise all invoices etc. to store them electronically.

They have suggested the Fujitsu Snapscan s1500 which costs around £350 as it has a save to pdf button on it!

Does anyone else use a scanner for a similar purpose?

Our new Sharp photocopier can do this...including scan to PDF and OCR as well...

 

I may be wrong but isn't there a legal requirement to keep paper copies for a set amount of time?

If you can network them most tend tp do all that sort of stuff - would just involve the staff moving.

The cost is probably for the sheet-feed facility - a £30 Canon LiDE scanner has a scan-to-PDF button, but you can only scan one sheet at a time. I'm guessing you need something you can plug directly in to a machine with Corero client of some sort installed on it, otherwise you could simply use any scanner or photocopier that can scan to PDF and have that dump PDFs to a particular file share. If that's an option you could always get that £30 Canon scanner, plug it in to an old PC and set it up to automatically place scanned PDFs in a file share. I'm guessing that the £350 scanner will better meet your needs, though.

Most MFD's with a feeder tray will do just as well. You shouldn't have to pay much for one. Just make sure it IS a feeder tray though!!

I'm with the MFP crowd here - we have a big A3 Colour Laser MFP just round the corner that's brilliant. Obviously overkill for your situation, but something it has you might want to keep an eye out for is duplex scanning - weird to watch, but dead clever. Scans to USB stick, network share (if set up) and e-mail with an LDAP lookup for users.

Don't think so; so long as you keep the records. I read this somewhere, but no idea where so can't give a reference. Talk to the bean-counters.

 

I've got an HP 5590, seems OK, sheet feeder jams sometimes and doesn't like 5m USB leads.

We have Sharp MX5000N's in our office but heavily use Fujitsu fi-5120 and fi-6130 series scanners out at our surgeries, well worth the money, they get hundred of thousands of sheets feed every year in the big surgeries.

To be fair to the SnapScan, it's expensive but it's a gorgeous piece of kit if you don't have a friendly neighbourhood MFD.
