Dos_Box Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 (edited) I downloaded and installed the final release version of IE9 yesterday and to date have found it very buggy. In fact it's caused my system to lock up 3 times. I've found it opens multiple instances of itself (in task manager only), when viewing YouTube it then locks up all other applications after a few mins and causes you to to a hard reset, even though the video continues to play correctly you cannot access any open applications at all. Not impressed so far. Anyone else having issues with it? Edited March 18, 2011 by Dos_Box
Abaddon Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Similar problems here. both with the beta and the RC. Was terribly slow - I installed Chrome to check, and that ran absolutely fine - IE9 took ages to load pages, especially from first start up. I've gone back to IE8 for the moment, and all is running fine again.
Guest TheLibrarian Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 TBH I won't touch it until some other poor unfortunates have Beta tested the release version. ;o)
3s-gtech Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Firefox 4 RC is now out - been pretty impressed with 4 on my home Windows 7 x64 machine - seems to perform better than 3 on my work machine, which is a very similar spec.

SYNACK Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I don't know about buggy, just downloaded it not and was instantly prompted to grab a new version of flash player which may help with the youtube issue if youtube is still redirecting ie9 to flash. They certainly did IE5 the logo though, it is such a weak blue now it looks faded and worn, not the best image for a shiney new browser.
FN-GM Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I dont like the interface, how the tabs open at the top along with the search box and address bar. To cluttered. I think i will stick with FireFox.

The new firefox is rather minimalist, it can't cope with printing though, at least not to an HP UPD driver, you get four pages of madness if the page has anything more complicated than a table on it.

I would switch to Chrome. But for Mac Google Gears doesnt support Google Chrome - FireFox does. I would rather keep the same browser for Mac & Windows.
Theblacksheep Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I dont like the interface, how the tabs open at the top along with the search box and address bar. To cluttered. I think i will stick with FireFox. Right click 'show tabs on seperate row'.
SYNACK Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 (edited) Right, html5 buffering is horrible, the RC seems stable enough so far with a bunch of youtube stuff open though. Edit: 32bit Windows 7 - on old tablet PC. Edited March 15, 2011 by SYNACK
Dos_Box Posted March 15, 2011 Author Posted March 15, 2011 I didn't have any problems whatsoever with the RC which is why I accepted the final version without much thought, but it seems to be horrible step backwards, and Lord! Is it slow
SYNACK Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I didn't have any problems whatsoever with the RC which is why I accepted the final version without much thought, but it seems to be horrible step backwards, and Lord! Is it slow I thought exactly the same about the Windows 7 RC and RTM, they added all the extra safeguarding and error handeling stuff and it bogged it down irevericably in comparison to the Beta. IE9 still seems faster than IE8 and does not take an age to load like chrome. I don't like the wasted space where there is no title bar, they could have raised the large buttons up higher and saved more space. I also can't pin favorites to the taskbar which is silly as for stuff like the get new posts feature on this site which is a redirect you can't simply drag the tab down. It seems poorly thought out by MS to allow one way and not the other.
mwnci Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Every time I go to our live@edu web interface, ie9 crashes. Anyone else experiencing this?
SYNACK Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Oooo, endearing I have had it installed for half an hour and it has already crashed out a tab, handled it much better than IE8 would have but then again IE8 would not have crashed. The curtain my be up but it is just at the dress rehersal stage by the looks of it. Classic, it bombed on an MS site too: http://fuse.microsoft.com/project/kodu.aspx
CyberNerd Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Remember, your supposed to wait until 'at least SP1' for MS software whilst they test the bugs out on end users.
chrisbrown Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 I'm an IE hater since day dot. Been using Firefox for longer than I can remember, and am a recent convert to chrome (I'm a bit of a minimalist). HOWEVER. I have been using IE9 for a while now (through beta, RC and now RTM), and I must say I am extremely impressed with it. I mostly use it for sites that use client controls unsupported in Chrome/Fx such as BES. I'm one of the biggest IEbashers around. I was the guy who went to the IE9 beta launch party to pick on the IE evangelists and was piping up "chrome does that" "firefox did that 3 years ago" etc. On the record: I like it.
brettryan Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 I would switch to Chrome. But for Mac Google Gears doesnt support Google Chrome - FireFox does. I would rather keep the same browser for Mac & Windows. This is because google have officially abandoned google gears in favor of official HTML5 methods of storage.
disk Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 Right click on IE9 (up at the toolbar area) and click "show tabs on a seperate row". IE9 has been running great on all of our systems. Integrated it into our new Windows 7 SP1 universal image. We did make sure to upgrade our Adobe Flash job at the same time...
Jon_boy1984 Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 (edited) I having been running it on my work laptop (Windows 7 x64) since the Final version was released, and I must say it runs well, although I have noticed that it is now running better since I have installed SP1 for windows 7 onto my laptop (I did that about a week after I installed IE9, after I had made sure I had a current backup). Prior to SP1 I noticed the tabs were buggy, and it was a little slow, but since I have installed SP1 I have had no trouble at all. Also forgot to mention the builtin download manager is very good. I have download several large files, and even after shutdowning the machine mid download, it resumed and the final download worked no issues. Typical Microsoft though, the inbuilt SmartScreen Filter worked out that the new Firefox 4 exe was safe, but it couldn't determine if the Windows Driver Kit ISO I had download from Microsoft was safe?!? ChrisMiles Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 I've found it opens multiple instances of itself (in task manager only) I believe this is because it uses a completely separate process for each tab, like Chrome does, its for security. I believe I also read somewhere about IE using separate processes for flash objects and similar as well but I don't know if they ever implemented that though.
Dave84 Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 I have found a problem with IE9 today. It seems to ignore the popup blocker exceptions you set in GPO. Dont think I will be deploying it for a bit.
