loucoll-Dave Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Hi Guys right i'll get right to the point, my boss has asked me to look into sccm 2010 but i cant find any install guides for this only 2007 r3......so which is better to use 2007 or 2010? we currently use wds with mdt 2010.....so my boss wants me to just use sccm.......is there much diffrence between mdt and sccm? if so any tips for me? Regards Dave
gshaw Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Do you mean System Center Essentials 2010? Thought the next version of SCCM will either be called v.Next or 2012 I prefer SCCM to WDS \ MDT but you can also do SCCM with MDT if you want to be really clever! Personally I find SCCM does deployment just fine and I love the extra reporting you get using it
Soulfish Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 As gshaw says there isn't a SCCM 2010 . v.Next (SCCM 2012) is supposed to be released later this year I believe.
teejay Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 There isn't an SCCM 2010, the latest version is SCCM 2007 R3. There is System Center Essentials 2010 whihc is a cut down version of sccm with some parts of scom and scvmm built into it, whihc is designed for smaller networks but does have some limitations. Edit: Got interrupted half way through typing and so didn't see previous responses.....
loucoll-Dave Posted March 14, 2011 Author Posted March 14, 2011 arrr ok i guess what i seen on the campus agreement was System Center Essentials 2010...thats what happens when you listen to the boss haha. ok so can sccm 2007 R3 do os deployment as well as application deployment? or should i run mdt along side sccm........as per normal im asked to start a new project as im about to start planning the images for this summer......looks like no summer holiday for me again this year :-P
tarquel Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 ok so can sccm 2007 R3 do os deployment as well as application deployment? It sure can And yes, you can integrate MDT into SCCM i.e. use the power of MDT in your SCCM Task Sequences 1
loucoll-Dave Posted March 14, 2011 Author Posted March 14, 2011 cheers for the reply..........in your views which is better to do, use sccm on its own or use best of both worlds with sccm and mdt? also how easy is it to get upto speed with it? is a month long enough?
Soulfish Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 SCCM and MDT is the route I'd go down. Gives greater flexability, and is a nice extra to have
synaesthesia Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 Could any of you kind folks provide me an idea of cost of SCCM? Looked up on MS's site and it's about as clear as mud/I'm being thick. Even if its not a full cost, a rough idea, is it licensed annually, one off payment, per client etc? Cheers
loucoll-Dave Posted March 23, 2011 Author Posted March 23, 2011 i went on our licence agreement and the software was there no need for any licence so i guess its just in the annual payment
