srochford Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Too late now but once this is sorted you need to push to get the wiring circuits properly labelled. Not sure if it's now a legal requirement but it's certainly done for all new buildings I've seen in the past 10-15 years and it makes life so much easier! Lack of labelling also suggests the circuits haven't been safety tested for a long time; again, not sure of the legal requirements but testing every 5 years is often an insurance requirement and testing's really hard if you don't know which socket goes where!
SimpleSi Posted March 10, 2011 Author Posted March 10, 2011 OMG!!!!!!!! The cab equipment is powered by the ubiquitous 4 way extension lead. I've traced where it goes. It was behind a cupboard full of equipment that has a removable back (Held by 4 clips) And behind all that was a pair of sockets (switched off) the extension plug dangling down and the circuit breakers supplying the socket were switched off !!!!!!!! This equipment was all working yesterday! Photos to prove it Answers please!!!!!!!!!!!! Si

maniac Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Our electrical wiring in this building is a nightmare - it was substantially re-wired in the 1990's, but still far from adequate. One of the first things I got done when I started was to get a dedicated feed from the main DB to the server room, as we had the breakers trip 3 times in the first few months I was here because the existing DB feeding the server room was overloaded. Since then, no problems.
