GrumbleDook Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Ah ... they are at the stage of 'fixing the bugs from the last patch ... that was to fix bugs in something else'. Always nice to see that softwarte development never changes!
Lee_K_81 Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 I usually hate CMIS upgrades, but i think that this time it is very much needed. So many problems were caused by the last upgrade that need fixing as a top priority, that there was no alternative. Let's just hope this one doesnt bring too many of it's own problems with it!
Kained Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Iam currently praying this version doesnt make my life hell!, as the last did!!
CheeseDog Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Someone is testing it for us here. Most other reports are fixed but finance is only a little better.
6Foot2 Posted March 13, 2007 Author Posted March 13, 2007 I can't remember the URL for the download for the updated software. Can anyone remind me what it is? Thanks.
maniac Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Here we go again . . . . . Currently taking bets on how long I'll spend on the phone to serco engineers after this update is applied. Last time we worked it out to be nearly 2 solid days of my time.
limbo Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 I think this is another upgrade to a deadline - it seems you cannot do your finance end of year without this upgrade so don't go thinking you have got lots of time to see how others get on - your Bursars / Finance officers are going to be breathing down your neck for this one!!
Kained Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 We are live it seems faster and slightly more stable with most issues resolved and havent had anything arise yet (keeps fingers crossed)
budgester Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 OK for those who may be interested in such things: I was assured over the phone that the upgrade would not take more than 20 minutes [TOPS] Begin the upgrade yesterday at around 2:15 Leaving for home [having done nothing but the upgrade all afternoon] at 5:50. Incidentally this does not include any testing, so I am now waiting for may phone to ring non-stop when my Facility users login this morning. It usually takes us around 20 minutes to do an upgrade, there must be something seriously off with you install if its taking 3 hours, and that includes eportal. Is that the database upgrade ? What database server are you running it on ?
6Foot2 Posted March 14, 2007 Author Posted March 14, 2007 OK so the post might have been a little misleading. The 3 hours + quoted in the post included the upgrade, waiting on the phone when the upgrade didn't take properly, a re-install [carried out by Serco remotley] and recovering our customised settings put in by our timetable guy. The essence of the post was that this is supposed to be a simple upgrade, and on both occasions it has been protracted and difficult [even after Serco took over and did the work on our behalf] They even had to upgrade our originally installed version because the one supplied was to old! How about that: Out of date on the first day. BTW: The ugrade was not a database upgrade. just the latest version [To 2.8.40.1 from 2.8 something.... Including al of the component: Controller, Dataserver, ePortal, Document Storage,....
openhgs Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 I did our upgrade yesterday and it took 2 hours, most of which was upgrading eportal. We have a split installation and the eportal machine always takes forever. The directory e:\Facility\eportal\facility\ePortal\jdk\jre\lib\zi contains many hundreds of small files, which I assume are locales for the Tomcat webserver. If the eportal upgrade didn't load these (IMO) unnecessary files, I think the time taken for the upgrade would be halved. So far, it all seems OK, although there are reports that eportal doesn't allow the entry of pupil concerns. Has anyone heard of anything like this?
GeorgeFaux Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Hopefully will go some way to resolving some of the long list of issues wih 2.8.
SpuffMonkey Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 I can't remember the URL for the download for the updated software. Can anyone remind me what it is? Thanks. I'd second that - I got the usual email with the download login - but there were just a few manuals and the DocStorage install?? Haven't had time to chase them - and waiting to see if it still causes problems...
tonto Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 The support staff seem to generally lack knowledge about anything other than the very basics. Getting hold of anyone with any real knowledge these days is almostt impossible.
GeorgeFaux Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Try to get the number of your regional co-ordinator.
