Asus EEe PC 1005HA Bios Battery

Has anyone found a source for replacement bios batteries for the Asus Eee PC had ours 18 months and it looks like the bios battery has died. This despite trying to charge for a few days.

 

ML1220 but it seems to be encased in plastic with a connector already attached. Would really like to by as is without having to solder on any connectors.

 

Any ideas?

If anyone else comes up with a source please let me know otherwise we're gonna have to eBay it on the quiet We've got 3 of these with duff batteries - roughly the same age as above!

For coin cell type batteries, for my watch, head torch etc I always use "The Small Battery Company". not sure if they have the pre-shrunk wrapped units on the shelf though. Highly reliable and quick postal delivery though. I found them on Google 4 or 5 years ago.

any news on this as we have a batch of them doing it out of the 20 we have! Not happy as i'm guessing it's not going to a quick job replacing them!

Ebay place I bought from fitted in a couple of minutes including the correct screws as it had the right connector on.

Just to let you guys know, We left one the affected netbooks plugged in charging for a day or two. It's been ok for the last couple of days but will report back if this has solved the issue.

Update on this if anyone is interested, I had another enquiry for this come through this morning, seems this model will be prone to replacements so worth posting this for future reference.

 

The small battery Co do carry a pre-contacted unit here ACER, ASUS ML1220/2E2E0X and BENQ (ML1220-WR) CMOS RTC Battery

 

Cheaper options on eBay as mentioned above but if you are not able to use aBay at your school the above might be useful. For reference the cheapest I can find through the trade was over £16 (to me)!!

 

Odd for a rechargeable coin cell to need replacing but there you go.

If anyone is still having this problem, today I found out something daft. It's not a battery/hardware issue, it's a firmware fault. Update the bios on your eeepc and it'll solve the problem

We have maybe 200 1005ha, and a lot of them, I would say half, have the bios battery problem, or what looks like it. Time going to 2002 and press F1 at startup as the bios has reset. They shipped with the bios numbered 8, and when we upgraded the bios to 16, it solved the problem....but now we are getting some of the updated ones showing the same problem. Ours are around 2 years old now, and its getting annoying. Keep them charged and they mostly seems fine, woe betye letting them drain though!

 

Had some salivating salesmen on the phone today. when I mentioned I needed replacement laptops that would fit in the netbook trolley, tablets and ultrabooks would be considered!

I suspect the problem is that the batteries are rechargeable ones and the firmware actually fixes the original fault of the batteries not actually getting charged at all - this both means they don't last for long out of the factory and on top of that when you do fix it, lifespan massively drops.
