Hi

Does anyone have a HTC Desire, if so, is it possible to have separate network settings for Wi-Fi connections as you can the iPhone, for example DHCP for the home connection and static for work. Also, is it possible to set a proxy?

Cheers

As I suspected. It's the assistant heads brand new toy so I guess I wont be hacking it!!

Thanks

Static IP Toggle - Android app on AppBrain

Would seem to do a static/dhcp toggle but you'd still have the proxy problem.

As much as not being able to have a proxy (with standard roms) is annoying to us geeks, in practice, I don't think many non-geek people actually need wi-fi access at school - a 3G connection with reasonable data plan usually does the job.

A simple profile switching app (home with wi-fi and school with it switched off) should meet your teacher's needs.

or

Setup an APN with the required Proxy Settings. (Never tried, just a suggestion).

Is Opera Mobile the only option when it comes to browsing the web via a proxy on a non-rooted phone?

I believe, (but never tried as I actually don't need it) that you can bodge things and pretend you are using a 3G network (which do allow proxies) but actually connect via wifi. have a google, try the solutions out and let us know :)

This def doesn't work on standard roms

BTW I've got proxy support (as I'm using CyanogenMod ROM) but I just don't bother using it.
