[sims] Music Qualifications where would you put them?

So the music grade qualifications that pupils sit (Grade 4 Piano etc) are not run through Exams Organiser so don't really "appear" in SIMS. So I was wondering what your School did about them (apparently there is a similar issues with some of the BTEC exams but I'm not 100% on this).

 

I talked to one school that simply records them as Achievements. This seems like a good idea (at least for the music grades) but I was wondering what other school's did.

Why do they need to be recorded? When I was a school I don't remember any one need my grade 3 trumpet information.

The reason they need to be recored is so that I can finally put the nail in the coffin of the rubbish index cards that some people feel are necessary that contain each pupils contact details and all their exam results/qualifications.

It makes sense to record the achievements that are gained whilst at school. Especially very well recognized and useful ones like music gradings.

 

I would create aspects for them in the same way as other aspects you would have in SIMS. we don't use EO but I have aspects for internal exam grades as well as external exam results so we can track them.

 

Music gradings could be reported on for music students or even in the pastoral section of reports.

 

I'm all for getting rid of paper records.

Don't know if it's still the case but, when I were a nipper, passing Grade 6 Theory got you some sort of exemption in Music O level. Maybe it was from the oral? Can't remember that far back. Eeh, have you seen the price of cabbages, etc.

You need to know the Board and the qualification but this often shown on certificate if candidate has one....

Maybe some Schools might like to use this as a complete record for a candidate's acheivements?

I though that there was a manual entry in EO but wasn't sure. I'd prefer to do that as it keeps all the exams together. It also seems more "official" for the qualifications. I don't think the "achievement" idea is a bad one but I was wondering what others did to for a basis for our decisions.

I would use the Non-EDI entry method if they appear on the National Qualifications Lists.

Before you can do this you need to know the EB, Levels, Points equivalences, Discount Codes etc. etc.

Which means a trawl through this website, which has undergone a facelift recently. It has a search facility of sorts (?)

Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music

When you have found the particular award then click the Performance Measures link to find the appropriate Points Scores for the Level of Award!

We've kind of looked at that. The thing is that we are OK with adding a qualification in general however it's adding the information in to EO to be able to manually add the qualification that confuses us (exam board, qualification etc).

Having ths same issue with some of the BTEC courses.

You can enter the awarding body as part of the Non-EDI Results process. You do need an up-to-date version of the qual file in order for the process to recognise all the details.
