I've been watching and posting for a little while. It's disturbing that having almost zero IT knowlege whatsoever does not preclude one from becoming an

ICT teacher, and especiallt an teacher who doublesing as a network manager for extra pennies in management points.

Seriously though, quite a few are up to scratch with their knowlege, but for many the entire digital revolution has taken them completely by suprise and they are currently fighting a rearguard action on their way to a computing Dunkirk.

It has to be said DB, that you don't pull any punches when it come to be-littleing teachers! My wife is worried about the ICT education the kids receive, when so few teachers have any real knowledge. But to be an ICT teacher, you don't have to understand ICT, you just have to teach what the cirriculum says, and know 1 or 2 products.

 

You've certainly raised a few heckles... I'm just wondering if we've managed to reduce Bisley to tears yet !!!

I have to say that I agree entirely with Dos_Box's comments here, and that they echo my comments in another thread on here (can't find it right now though...) regarding the fact that many ICT teachers are actually not qualified at all in ICT.

 

I do believe (in my unprofessional, non-educationally minded, technician's opinion!) that ICT should be classes as a specialist subject, if such a thing were to exist, and that only qualified & knowledgible individuals should be allowed to teach it.

 

However, this would probably only leave us about ten ICT teachers in the entire of Britain and runs the risk of making Bisley98 a sought-after individual, so I'll go back to being unprofessional and not having any clue about education what-so-ever because I'm not a teacher.

I don't belittle teachers, I belittle idiots. I have worked with, and in, wonderful schools where people were trusted to do their jobs, responsabilities were clearly defined and nobody clashed like they do on TES.

I have seen the others however, with poorly paid support staff, a 17 - 18 year old network manager who is way out of their depth being pressed by staff to do jobs that no one really understands and the poor indiviual is being dominated by a system they do not understand and will receive little or no training in.
