pete Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Good idea, if a bit "I wonder what prompted that idea?" Redditch crematorium energy project jumps final hurdle - Top Stories - News - Birmingham Mail
teejay Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 As long as no floaty bits get in the pool, sounds a good idea to me
bondbill2k2 Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 While I too was thikning :s when I heared about it on the radio its actually a clever idea, its no different to the normal cremation service and its supplying huge savings for the council, while it costs £39,000 to install this would be paid back in just under 3years. In the long run a great saving at £15,000 per year if the figures are accurate and all goes to plan. The savings would be huge unique ideas like this were implemented across the UK. Do you think the crematorium will see an increase in business too due to people wanting to contribute their death?
LosOjos Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Do you think the crematorium will see an increase in business too due to people wanting to contribute their death? Nobody's dedicated enough to council savings to top themselves surely? It is a great idea though, of course you've had the "it's disrespectful to the dead" argument, but I fail to see how when nothing is being done any differently, it's not like they're proposing building a human sized log fire now is it?
CAM Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 How long until we get stories of paranormal activity in the pool?
pete Posted February 9, 2011 Author Posted February 9, 2011 How long until we get stories of paranormal activity in the pool? "Mr Spengler assured residents at a recent Council meeting that a high-capacity ghost-trap had been installed in the heating system. Any souls will be raffled off for charity or donated to the tory party."
Flakes Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 paranormal activity? is that when different areas of the pool are warmer.......er nevermind.
bondbill2k2 Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 paranormal activity? is that when different areas of the pool are warmer.......er nevermind. Id say its supernatural to just have a warm council run pool!
LosOjos Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Unison were against the idea. Makes sense. Of course, let's bang on at councils to stop cutting jobs and then slam them for trying to make savings to stop cutting jobs... idiots! I can only assume it was on a moral i.e. religious basis, something else which has no place in politics. [/rant] EDIT: before it gets picked up on, I'm not saying there are no morals with religion (I'm an atheist, I have morals), the point was that when they talk about morals in a political sense, 99% of the time they're actually talking about their religious beliefs [//rant]
tech_guy Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 So the next business model would be to build an old people's home right next to a crematorium. How energy efficient would that be?! Like perpetual motion....! [n.b. please bear in mind the above is a joke...]

LosOjos Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Politicians have no morals, so your point is invalid:getmecoat: I know that, that's why they splurt out religious beliefs and call them morals: they do need religion in order to portray the illusion of having morals! My point still stands
Little-Miss Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Can't help but feel a bit "eewwww" about that, but its a clever idea! lol
teejay Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Politicians will spout anything that they feel will win them votes, power or a few extra sly backhanders, religion doesn't come into it and atheist politicians are just as guilty of this as religious politicians, so point still invalid:p
bondbill2k2 Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Like perpetual motion....! Im thinking discount OAP intense swimming club
tech_guy Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 It's simples - old people like to have the heating turned up whatever the weather, so the heat from the crematorium keeps them all toasty in the old people's home, and then when they pop their clogs they generate some heat for their pals in the home and someone else comes along to take their place in the home and so on....... I think I've just solved global warming?
Pyroman Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I think I've just solved global warming? Not really 'cos you've still gotta burn them
Butuz Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Now that's what I call thinking out side of the box!!!! Fantastic idea!! Hmm we've got a vets next door - I wonder if they have an incinerator??? Butuz
