Edu-IT Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Just wondering, EMBC domains have the EMBC registrar tag. Does this mean that these domains are theirs to do what they want with? With schools looking to potentially go elsewhere for their connectivity, can schools request to take control of their .sch.uk domain?
localzuk Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 .sch.uk domains belong to the school. You can transfer them elsewhere.
powdarrmonkey Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 And further, your current registrar should not put up any resistance to changing the tag themselves. If they do, and you can't be bothered to fight it, Nominet will change the tag for you for a tenner as a last resort.
Arthur Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 EMBC are just the registrar. If you do a WHOIS query for your domain you should see that the school is listed as the registrant.
GrumbleDook Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Dead easy to change ... dead easy to release. All you need to do is make sure you have a decent registrar for it to go to. I know two schools who use Network Solutions but that was because they also had .com domains with them and did some fast talking (Network Solutions don't normally take on .sch.uk domains), but many other registrars will be happy to do it for you. You don't even have to have your DNS with them either. You can have the tag with one and leave the DNS with EMBC (or a n other). The internet is quite flexible like that.
john Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Carl @ CS New Media hosts many .sch.uk domains I do recall when I discussed something with him a while ago for a couple of my locals
