I lost my old girl last Jan and she was 16.5 years old. The last three years she had gone deaf which was a godsend come firework night. It was the hardest thing ever letting her go. As the months went by I considered another dog but had three close family deaths to deal with and kept putting it off. Finally got my wee Izzy in November and she is fabulous. Now 18 weeks of high energy lol in fact has started teething at the moment. I never thought I would find happiness again in another dog cause in a weird way I thought I would feel disloyal to Jess. But this little bundle of fun makes me smile big time. I am so happy for you Hightower as I remember we were both kinda looking at rescue centres around the same time last year. My Izz is a Miniature Schnauzer.

We have 2 westies (brothers) from the Westie Rescue people in Swindon. We went on a reunion day back last year where there were over a hundred rehomed westies all parading round collecting their rosettes. They do some fantastic work there and our two dogs (Jack + Teddy) have been amazing little dogs from day one. Jack loves to watch TV and barks at the other animals when they come on, whereas Teddy is just happy to lie on his back and have lots of fuss.

Our last dog was a rescue in a way, the wife's aunty & uncle were getting rid of him as being a terrier he kept taking a liking to her young cousin's rabbits. (strange that!) The cousins were told they could either keep the dog and not have any more rabbits, etc. or get rid of the dog - they chose the latter. If we didn't take him then he would have gone to the RSPCA but we decided to have him. The first couple of months were a little trying at time but Sandy finally settled down and beacame a wonderful dog, often acting like a puppy but we decided that was because he was never really allowed to be a puppy.

 

We keep looking at the local dog rescue but since the wife was made redundant she has been working at a company that's too far away to go home at lunch time. We'd therefore need to find one that could be left all day although our next door neighbour complicated things yesterday when she said that she would happily take him for a walk at lunchtime.

Sandy finally settled down and beacame a wonderful dog, often acting like a puppy but we decided that was because he was never really allowed to be a puppy.

 

 

Ours is a rescue dog sort of, also called Sandy. We got her from a rescue centre as a puppy; no previous owners as such. Her 3rd birthday tomorrow. Wife works at home 4 days a week and they're good company for each other. Other day is quick scoot home at lunchtime for me to take her for a walk. We also have a rescue cat who has sort of accepted the new status quo.

Well we got the dog back from the vets last night, and he looked quite perky considering he'd just been out on the table. Thing is, when we went to bed we had to put one of those cones on, and it was horrible. It took him about an hour to settle, and it felt like he was never gonna settle, but then at 11 he calmed down and dropped off to sleep all night - he slept next to us on the floor and I didn't hear him move once through the night.

 

Now we have to go out and leave him alone for the first time since getting him. Hope he settles right down
