Anyone good with cars?

I got a 04 reg Nissan Almera petrol (great car) but I am unsure what engine oil it takes. Can any one point me in the right direction?

 

I am no good when it comes to cars and engines, and I cant find th oil specs anywhere :-(

generally petrol cars are 10w/40 though

May be worth speaking to Nissan... IMO they will be the best people to speak to as they will know which is best as they have to servicing etc??

To be honest, it needs a service, but I don't have the time or money to do it yet, so was hoping that replacing the oil would get rid of the smell, haha. I know I need to get it seen to.

Why not just take it to a tyre and oil centre? They will usually change your oil and filter for £20-25. For that kind of money its not even worth thinking about doing it yourself.

Yeah, theres a very slight smell that seems to come through the central heating vents (more likely the engine bay) but it goes within a minute or two. I have not had the money this past month to do anything about it, as long as it ran, it was ok (in my eyes) but seeing as though it is payday, I should consider booking it in somewhere.

you probs have a slight oil leak and the smell is the oil burning off, an oil change is unlikely to cure this but I would keep an eye on your levels

When you start your car open the bonnet and as it warms up look out for black smoke, if you see any then you should be able to see where the leak is in that area, ofcourse I may be totally wrong and you have a dead rat under the bonnet cooking on the manifold!

I havent noticed any black smoke to be honest.

Doesn't winter / summer make any difference ( FYI I am no car expert / mechanic either ) just asking
