We are looking for an open source content management system for our external web site.

Our host only supports asp.

It needs to be quite easy to setup as i dont have any knowledge of asp.

Any reccomendations???

ASP content management as posted by Chris is very very basic.

I use it for our Intranet but I'm now looking at moving towards a wikimedia install for that.

I wouldn't recommend it for an external website.

from experience you can't do that much with asp but you might want to look into 4D databasing but it is very expensive. I think thats the best way to control asp from what I know.

PHP/mySQL is far better way, there is lots of software that you can use with that. If you switch to a cpanel host you usually get fantastico deluxe, which seems to be the best.

Check out http://www.telekinetix.com for asp questions, they do asp stuff.

I use joomla (or mambo which I believe is a variation on joomla) for our intranet on a PHP/mySQL environment. I've also used PHP nuke in the past, both are easy to set up and have a range of different features. You can also get a very wide range of plugins for either to offer you all sorts of different options and addons. Either could be easily used for an external website.

Infact many people think our intranet has a more professional look and feel than our website which was done by an outside company (boy were we ripped off there, but that's another story!)

You can get good systems that run on ASP, but more people seem to be developing for PHP, possibly because it's easier and more widely used. there's lots of ASP content management systems which allow you to build sites quickly and easily listed Here

we have looked at plone. its good for an intranet. is no good externally in our case.

Pale Purple do Plone hosting from £120 per year we use them and so far so good. Plone is really good - after setup everything can be done through the front end and it is easy to set up permissions on different sections of the site.

It's just a shame its so beefy there are only 2 places in the UK that will host it and the other one costs £700 per year!
