Hi I offer web hosting services, and currently host two primary schools. You can use the discount "Edugeek" to obtain a 10% discount off prices, we obviously allow DNS Changes and MX Record Changes. You get the cPanel interface and you can have as many MySQL databases as you would like. You are Guarnteed 99.99% uptime although servers haven't crashed for 3 months straight, currently at 100% uptime, and we can invoice you. PM me if interested

Hi, I have a webserver, if you want I can set up a forum for you. As I run a hosting company in my spare time. I'll do it for free, always heappy to help out a fellow edugeek. Just PM if interested. You can have log in to the control panel as well (cPanel in this case). The software available is phpbb. Let me know!

Well They want to put it in and have asked for me to look at it. Squirrelmail is pretty basic, and we really want an exchange solution. I was just wondering about the sort of set up an exchange has? Doesn't it need two servers? one for backup? What sort of spec do you need for exchange?
-
Thanks, the site is static (HTML) and does not get many visitors as it is just the company site. Know I know that I can do it, I have a few more questions. How much is it to set up an exchange server i don't really have any clue about the windows side of things? What sort of spec server do you need for an exchange wihich will serve about 50 users? How much will it be to buy a server an software? How hard is it to set up an exchange, I know how mail systems work and web principles so I know how to set these things up. But the company does not have a built in network just lots of stand alone computers. You can just set the users up on exchange right? You do not need to link it with active directory? I would appreciate someone giving me an overview of the set up. Thanks!

Is it possible to use an Exchange server as a web server? As I would like to look at getting exchange over Squirrelmail. I currently have one linux server with apache and squirrelmail. As I still need the site and still want for it all to be done internally. So for example I have a static site, with about 30 pages. Would it be possible to use exchange, and have the site on the same server in the Inet root? Im not really very good with windows hosting, so is this advisable and will it be any problems? Can it be done? Can you get to the web root on an exchange server?

Hi, I am running a quiz night on Friday in my school. I ran one last year with 108 people and 5 markers, I did it the marks with an excel spreadsheet. It was chaos. I had 5 people crowding round to use it, then it ran flat. I had to run the laptop between the markers area and the main room to show people the marks. CHAOS! This Year I have a bigger building and close to 350 people coming. The event is on Friday! I had arranged for someone to make me a database in Filemaker (Then I can shove on school filemaker server) with a web front end. However he has let me down. The event is on Friday (this friday - 23rd). I was wondering if anyone knew of anything that I can have 10 markers entering scores into(all on there own computer, they can be edited after, and then in the main room I can view them at any time and I can display them on screen. Does that make sense? Has anyone made one of these - or would anyone be willing to make one for me??? It can be anything - mysql & php, 4D, a program, asp & sql. Can anyone help! Thanks, Ollie

Yeah I know that linux/apache won't be much use. I am only testing an ASP site at the moment. Which is why I need a temporary IIS fix. O well, thanks for your help.

As I want to test some asp at the moment, with a database. Is it just not worth bothering with? I have googled it and seems like a lot of hassle to get xphome to do it. Might be easier to pay for 1 months Windows Hosting. Anyone know of an easy way of doing it?
-
Its not for anything radical and its only going to be a short term fix, until a new machine arrives at which point I will run Linux/Apache. Can you do it on XP home?
-
Can you install IIS services on Windows XP home/Professional? Probably a silly question, but thought I would ask.

Not sure this is the right forum but Im in need of a spare test machine, the motherboard in the one I have has just given up. Im just wondering if anyone/school has a spare desktop around? I don't need a monitor/mouse/keyboard. I don't need an OS. I would like a small desktop(I had a shuttle, so something that size or the size of a dell optiplex sort of thing), that runs quietly (I want to leave it on all the time). Not an awful spec, but like 1.2Ghz, 256 RAM, 30GB+, Network card. I am willing to pay by paypal/cheque. Anyone help?

from experience you can't do that much with asp but you might want to look into 4D databasing but it is very expensive. I think thats the best way to control asp from what I know. PHP/mySQL is far better way, there is lots of software that you can use with that. If you switch to a cpanel host you usually get fantastico deluxe, which seems to be the best. Check out http://www.telekinetix.com for asp questions, they do asp stuff.

Thought about switching host? If you go for a host with something like cpanel then you get loads of bundled cms software. You can get some very cheap hosting these days.

Right I have a problem. I have a "test"machine that I usually test web software on. I am trying to install Linux SUSE that I downloaded and imaged onto disks. It has Windows 98 & XP installed atm. When I try to boot from the disk it does not seem to work. I put the disk in and rebooted, I then went into the bios but it doesn't seem to recognise the CD Drive. I then tried unplugging the HD and rebooting, that just didn't boot. Has anyone got any suggestions as to how I can get this to work?
