Why are old threads revived?

Yeah - provided the thread is still relevant to the new poster, sling the question on. I know I occasionally look at a thread and have to resist the urge from replying with "I know you didn't search before you posted you, because there's three decent threads on that subject".

 

OTOH, what's the average click-through rate like on a necro'd thread vs a new thread on the same topic (provided it's not a topic that's been new-threaded to death recently).

Don't resist the urge! Do tell people when there are similar threads! They may not have found them but could find the info useful.

As for reviving old threads, as long as new post is relevant I would rather that than have several threads on the same topic.
