Server 2003 SP 2 --> RC2

I want to install the "plugin" for managing printers/etc in group policy, and it looks it's only compatible w/RC2?

 

Is this an upgrade, or something that needs purchased?

 

Worth doing, or is there another util that works as well?

Release2 needs purchasing seperately I think. Print Management isnt bad really although it doesnt allow you to control whether the printers being deployed are the "default" printers or not. I prefer controlling Printers through Group Policy Preferences but you need at least Server 2008 for that. I would look into getting Server 2008 if your server is up to standard

Upgrades to 2003 R2 require a separate product key.

 

Its probably a bit extreme to pay to upgrade to an old version of the software for one feature but if you were willing to shell out then it might be worth looking at Server 2008 R2 anyway and see if any its features grab your fancy. Depending on your environment it might make other things easier to manage.

Appreciate the advice.

 

It all started with wanting to make some changes (easily) w/the Print management "add-on".

 

I've used it on another server that had 2008, and I was searching for it with mine (2003).

 

We are in the process of replacing our server, it's almost 7yrs old now, and it will come with 2008.

 

I'm having some issues with adding a printer to the domain which prompted me to use that, I'll make another thread for that.
