Hmm I thought you could always do something like this with VMware to some degree but always assumed it was the higher end versions.

just used VM ware converter to create a vm machine out of my physical machine (lappy) it took just over an hour but i now have a very good backup and it works very well, (so much so thatwhen i booted vmware and started the image it told me i hada duplicate machine name on my network , brilliant.)

ah i used it as a test on a windows 2003 terminal server it worked great, two weeks later that server when pair shaped (citrix bust it! when i ried to uninstall citrix with the service disabled) and so i used the virtual one in place of it, absolutely priceless as it was our home school link up, so i am obviously a massive fan of it now.

For those who have been wondering, you can convert a running (with users) SIMS Server to a vm for testing purposes using this tool.

 

Took about an hour and worked beautifully.

 

Suffice to say, I'm amazed nothing broke and now keep looking upwards for falling pianos.
