Network Installation Tool Kits

Hi,

 

I was just wondering if anyone knows where i can get a reasonable network installation kit from and decent tool kits for maintenance/repair of Desktops and Laptops?

You could llok at CPC and Maplins for an idea on what types are available, I tend to go through the Belkin route myself.

Yeah but the Belkin kits seem a bit cheap and nasty and i want something that's going too last a while and a tool case i can nail shut so people can't thieve tools out of it ...

Toolkit for pc maintenance is a number 2 posidrive I believe.

 

A lot of pc's these days are toolless entry and hard drives etc... are held in with clips.

 

Having said that I replaced mine and my technicians tool kits last year and just bought a nice case/tool bag and then bought tools from hills.

You could just source out every tool you need and buy a seperate toolkit box thats steel and lockable? There are quite a few around, electronics and electrical stores tend to have the best range.

Try Mills, they have some good quality tools, I have purchased a fair bit of kit from them and they have always been excellent.

Shame they don't offer a guarantee the premises team won't borrow them for a lifetime.

Ah thats where I am sorted, they all use Stanley stuff so I am the only one that uses Mills tools so I know when they have stolen my kit so I can go and steal it back from them, so long as I can find it that is.

I can do most jobs with my leatherman. Ocassionally I may need a proper screwdriver and ofc when doing RJ45 face plates I use the correct tool. Oh and I have some crimps as well but they hardly ever see the light of day.

I inherited a number of ProsKit toolkits when I started my current job. Unfortunately ALL the kits had bits missing and I wasn't massively impressed with the quality of the tools that were left - not impressed enough to pay ProsKit prices!

 

Fortunately, I had the cases still and I have simply restocked as I needed tools - my Stanley screwdriver kit was particularly good value IIRC and the quality is excellent. I buy a lot of tools from Rapid Electronics... prices seem as good as any.

 

The other two tools that I have added to my arsenal are my Test-Um Validator cable testing kit and UBCD (a free set of testing software - the 'full' version includes a mini Knoppix distro... simply google it).

We use Videk and Blackbox for our netwrok kit. THey may be a bit pricier than others but you can't scrimp when it comes to this type of kit.
