Now, we currently have Active Studio 2.00 software on all the staff laptops. We want to upgrade to the new 3.0 version (free on from the web) We also want to add the ActiveVote software as well.

1. Do i need to uninstall version 2.0 before i install 3.0 ( Want to deploy the .msi through GPO to the staff laptops with a .mst file) ?

2. If it does install does it overwrite 2.0 or does it sit alongside 2.0?

3. Can ActiveVote be installed with version 3 of ActiveStudio(we currently only tried on a couple of laptops with ActvieStudio 2.5)?

4.Can Active Vote be installed via GPO with the msi and a mst file?(Has anyone done this?)

I would like to know what you thin or of your trials and experiences. We have over 130 staff laptops and i do not want to have them all back in if i can help it. I would like to install 3.0 and ActiveVOte through GPO if i can.

We RIS all our laptop s but we are months away from calling them all back in to have a update image,

From what it says on the main Promethean site version 3 is designed to be installed side-by-side with version 2 rather than replace it. They say that's to allow the users to make the transition in their own time - presumably they were criticised about 1 and 2 being "too different" for teacher brains to handle. I know we had a bit of that.

So:

1) No!

2) Alongside

3) Pretty sure they say yes to that too in the docs

4) No idea

There are also newer (version 4.x) drivers if you've not seen that yet and it comes as an .msi

We've just installed (for the first time) version 3 onto one computer after a re-build, a long-time ActivStudio user (~4 years). We do all our AS installs per machine manually so don't know how pushing via GPO works on AS3.

We've installed ActiVote along side it and seems OK at first (haven't registered the pods yet though)

After reading ZeroHOurs install guide for a netwrok install of Active studio i decided to bump this post to see if anyone else had tried the Active VOte Software.

ActivVote is installed as part of ActivStudio, no need for a seperate install.

Other than the splash screen ActivVote looks and works pretty much the same.

Does this apply to all versions of Active Studio?

For instructions on GPO deployment see my post:

http://www.edugeek.net/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=7462

It tells you everything you need to do to get it deploying (so far)

I have seen upgrade code in the MSI so I think it may remove 2 but that is not confirmed nor tested. I am about to look into upgrading current 2 deployements. Post a reply on the link above and you will get notified each time I add info/changes. I will update it with upgrade information soon as well as ACTIVprimary findings.

Right, it looks like it by default only upgrade the previous version 3 (3.0.71).

I can give you instructions but I need someone to post the upgrade codes (in the properties of the msi as UpgradeCode) of the versions they want removed then I will tell you how to modify the transform to remove older versions.
