Get Win 7 to ignore kix script parts

Currently we have xp computers on a 2003 domain that get drives and other stuff setup using kix script.

 

Having just setup some test Win 7 laptops and using RSAT I can do most items in the Kix script with gpo so need to find a way to get the Win 7 laptop not to apply parts of the script.

Migrate to GPP, Windows XP and 7 can use this - that's the best step. Can you get a Server 2008 R2 server into the domain as a DC to help manage the 7 machines?

Would love to put in a 2008 box but the CC are still installing 2003 server units (not very on the ball our cc) and I took on some small primary schools 8 months back and half had just got 2003 setup. They only have small budgets and are not going to get any new servers. I could move the 2003 OS onto a workstation in a vm and then back to the server using 2008 as the OS but I need to sort these little issues out first.

You could use the @PRODUCTTYPE macro.

 

Something like:

A Windows 7 Machine would be able to create the GPP for you, the 2003 Domain will just serve up the policies and providing your Windows XP workstations have the Client Side Extensions installed they'll work quite happily.

^^Yup, if budget and server installations are the issue, you can do it without as stated. Could also setup 2008 R2 on a VM for now, doesn't need huge power if it's just a DC.
