Going by what the BBC said... Russia might be happy to rollover to FIFA demands and that may have been a silent factor.

Then 4 years later put it in one of the top 3 richest GDP wise countries, one of the hottest in the world, which is half the size of Wales?

a) They paid a bigger bribe than we did.

b) We've got Panorama and they haven't.

England may have played badly in South Africa, but at least they qualified, which Russia failed to achieve.

The thing that is annoying is, if you look at the crowds from this past World Cup it was shocking. Hold the World Cup in England and you are gonna fill stadiums.

FIFA - No video technology so dodgy decisions can still happen! They bang on about "Kicking Racism out of Football" but give Russia and its racist neo-nazi fanatics a world cup. Want to promote football in "developing nations" that span 13 time zones, ban alcohol and alcohol advertising - screw you to the sponsors, that have 40c+ summers, no stadia, no infrastructure and national teams that a pub team could beat!

Its farcical and England, Spain, Portugal, Netherlands, Belgium, Australia, Japan and America should all feel hard done by!!

Given that it's called the "world" cup, doesn't it make sense that it moves around the world? If Wikipedia is correct, half of them so far have been in Europe so isn't it about time we moved it somewhere else? Africa got a look in this year but there's quite a lot of people in Africa so perhaps they should get a look in before it comes back to Europe.

 

I wonder if our response to winning the Olympics influenced the decision? At a high level there's been lots said about how wonderful it is to have the Olympics in 2012 but if you read the press or listen to the radio in London, all you get are people whinging about the chaos it will cause to traffic, the high price of the tickets, the fact that the tubes will be over crowded and so on. If that's how much people want the Olympics, perhaps FIFA didn't believe David Cameron when he tried to sell the idea of England hosting the world cup!

Anyways, regardless of this, the BBC somehow will still feel justified in ruining this for us, getting just 2 votes I believe, obviously the judges were not pleased suddenly (when apparently we had fewer issues overall that all the others in terms of infrastructure and funding etc).

 

If we won... then the BBC says it forced FIFA's hand

I think I'd rather have won (then exposed whatever), as a thorough football fan.

The World cup does move round the world! Each governing body in FIFA takes it's turn. This year was Africa, the next world cup is in South America (Brazil) then Europe (UEFA, Russia), then Qatar (Asia).

It does move around the world, but to give it to Qatar in 2022 is shocking - have they even got a national side?! Football should go where the fans are. Spain - football mad. Portugal - football mad. we managed to secure the 2015 rugby world cup with very little public money compared to these failed bids. in the current climate the 25+ million its probly cost us could have saved a third of becta!

Why do countries have to bid at all!!

 

Why not do it like the lottery and the countries are represented by a number but not known until the balls have come out of the machine.

 

Those countries not wishing to take part are not entered!

 

Once the country has been drawn they should then be exempt from the next draw.

 

It is too simple though for very important people and of course the politicians need to have lots of PR spin put on it.

 

Football is beginning to lose its glossy veneer and is now being shown in its true light full of backhanders and illegal activities for what? to make some people a huge amount of money and the poor punter who pays through the nose every weekend just gets shafted every time.

 

Footballers are overpaid and underworked who don't give a fig about the people who come to watch them week after week they just want the money fullstop.

 

I used to love football but have become totally disillusioned with the greed that has enveloped it.

 

I now watch international rugby instead which gives me better value for my money and I get a real sense of enjoyment.

 

I am so pleased we didn't get it as we wouldn't have heard the last of it for the next 7.5 years, we can now get on with our lives, football has taken over too many people's lives and too much of the television its getting worse than the soaps!!
