Administrative installation images

 

Description: Administrative installation images are replaced by a required local installation source.

 

Reason for change: Administrative installation images were difficult to sustain. Requiring a local installation source prevents source resiliency problems when the 2007 Office release is updated

 

Who makes up this garbage? If it wasn't for the fact that Office 2007 requires product activation for each copy and Microsoft are trying to milk the cow for every last drop now....

 

Anyway, I particularly like 'Administrative installation images were difficult to sustain'. How? How were they difficult to maintain? The complete lack of information on this from Microsoft is annoying. I just hope select licences are available from the Westfield Centre soon. Can you imagine reinstalling Office and entering 400 separate serial numbers during the summer upgrades\maintenance?

I was under the impression that the VLKs for Office 2007 are still VLK 1.0 and do not require activation. :?

Just got my new schools agreement pack through which has office 2007 in and a volume licence key. As far as I can tell there is no requirment for authentication.

 

BTW how nice are the CD Cases that microsolt provide now soooo much nicer than the ones that the technet disks came in.

I am using Office 2007 here and its just one key and old fashioned MS Activation V1 as far as I have seen. Just put the key in and off you go.

 

You are best deploying it with the BDD tools I think, and as they are free and replace RIS I suspect that they won't be too bad at all. Just gotta start playing with them soon to learn all about them before the Easter Refresh

Am I the only one using central admin installs?

No I have a central install at all my sites and then deploy it from there using GPO, but its life that MS change things about so I guess that they new way will juts work

I've got the VLK media [download version] and looking at whats extracted seems much different from previous versions.... I noticed theres a folder called update in the root of the install, and the docs mention you can place the hotfixes in there, and it will install them during the install...

 

wonder if that would work with GP too

 

It may well be a self contained install....

 

Have you tried just placing the root of the install in a hidden share on the server accessible by the computers during boot / GP and trying it out?

 

i.e. dont try to make a Administrative Point first, just try it "as is"?
