Obviously this thread provides somewhere for schools to notify 'edugeekers' of current IT vacancies at their organisation. I was wondering if there was anywhere that an edugeeker could 'put themself forward' as someone seeking work in IT in schools, kind of a reversal of this thread, perhaps providing a starting point for schools when they are trying to appoint someone? What do we reckon??

I am always on the look out and I know you can go to agencies but I think a lot of schools dont bother with them. The other option of course is a mail-shot but its one hell of a task, whether you email or snail-mail it. I'd like to think I have something to offer schools and sometimes its a case of, (budget permitting) if they see someone that can do x, y and z, they could be persuaded to accomodate that person, if not at least make some initial contact.

I know if I cant simply google it and find an answer, then this is the place to come!

Get yourself on LinkedIn if not already, set you professional self up, and you can direct people to that in apps, I do. But I think an option to have a kind of resume or something similar where you can say what you have to offer etc etc is a great idea. I might worry it would become over populated with everyone putting themselves on it!!!

Possibly, but I guess not everyone is looking for jobs or to move elsewhere. If you think, the total amount of threads/posts on the whole of edugeek must be massive but thats when sensible categorising comes in and the ability to search appropriately.

True, but I would imagin that while not everyone is actively looking, most would nose around and put themselves out there in the hope of something better. Still like the idea though! Maybe even just a 'i'm looking' or 'i'm available' section. No details, just who we are, and that way people who know us enough though our posts can get in contact that way.

At the moment a potential employer will just post up their application / advert and Edugeek members will see and apply if they feel applicable. I don't see many employers having time to sift through personal adverts to see who will be suitable for their position. That's where recruitment consultants came from. But yeah, I'd put myself on it, not sure if it would get used a lot!
