Setting up home wireless network with MAC and PC..?

I have at home a Ntegear wireless router which is connected to able broaband modem. The router softwareis on my main pc which is rarely on. I use the wirelss for both our laptops downstairs. I easily set this up and works fine.

 

I have been asked (as a favour) to set up a similar thing for a friend.

 

Trouble is the main computer is a MAC,which has BT Broadband and want to enable wireless access to windows xp laptops.

 

My problem is i know nothing about MAC's. Will i be able to set up the Netgear Router exactly the same on a MAC OS. How does it work on BT Broadband? My Cable Broadband is always on bu ti believe you have to click a icon to connect on BT. Hows this affect the router if the MAC is not turned on?

 

Any Advice please?

If you have to click a button to get the broadband up and running, I suspect that the user is using a USB modem!

doesn't BT broadband use a proprietry-type router (some bollocks about how they like to monitor the quality of their users' connections to improve service - nothing to do with forcing you to buy their equipment)?

 

Don't know much about Macs but but, since it's a flavour of *nix, you should be able to find something about sharing Internet connections.

Yep- System Preferences > Sharing > Internet > choose which interface you want to share from, authenticate if you have to and put a check in the box.

 

I use BT Broadband for my connection and have never had a problem at all with either my Macs or my windoze based boxen.

tosca - can't you just type in the ip address of the router in the MAC OS browser [its been so long i dont remember its name lmao]?

 

You'll need to have a phyiscal connection to the router possibly on first setup tho most likely.

 

I am assuming the same setup as yours [appart from the mac aspect]
