I've been asked to investigate the possibility of a school mobile phone that can connect to any mailbox on our exchange, BUT only one at a time and with no configuration.

for instance, teacher a takes the phone, it connects to their mailbox, etc, etc.

teacher b has the phone the next day and they mustn't be able to see teacher a's mailbox, but connect to their own, without having to configure it themselves.

is this even possible?

i know on windows mobile 6 it's not. I don't think that sort of thing is on iphone either. i'm not sure about android, symbian or windows 7 though.

i'm assuming it would store details of our exchange, and then just pop up a box asking username and password and connect. and next time you run it it will ask again, but won't need mail server details.

Do you want to set up using active sync on (say the iphone)? If so apple only lets you have one at a time. If you have the settings of your accounts and servers to hand, this should not be too difficult to set up each time.

The alternative is to set up account a, and then Mr a has the responsibility to remove their password from the phone before they hand it back, allowing for such prompt.

I am only an iphone man, sorry!

it needs multiple accounts, with as little config each time.

so give it to deputy head, she puts in username and password and shes done. she passes it on to science teacher who does the same, and thats it. they dont all need to know mail server address, domain name etc.

from reading about android, it can do multiple accounts, but the security will need to be tested

I understand totally what you want, for it to be like a terminal where users enter passwords each time. I think the difficulty is that phones are generally personal devices and so default applications work on this basis.

The native* android exchange app for 2.1 lets you have multiple exchange accounts. I use it here for 3. (exchange 2010 and UAG 2010)

Android 2.2 didnt work but that maybe specific to the custom build I was using I copied 2.1 app into my 2.2.

* stuff like htc sense uses their own exchange app.

i'm still not entirely sure what the use will be. if its purely for email, then an ipad with a simcard and giving access to outlook web access would do the job.

but if they want a phone as well as an email function, i dunno.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrraaahhhhh

or a large/hi resolution 'droid phone (dell 5" streak maybe a good compromise between size and readalibilty?)
