Hello, all..

We purchased 5 WD15EARS drives from Misco back in March.

Today, one of them started playing silly beggars and WD's diagnostics disk confirmed that it's needing replaced.

I phoned Misco, who said I need to go through WD because they only supply the drive with a manufacturer's warranty.

I looked up the site:

Western Digital Caviar Green 1.5TB Advanced Format - Misco.co.uk

"Warranty Information

This product has a limited warranty of:

36 months for parts

This manufacturer warranty is provided by Western Digital.

Support Phone Number: 0870 720 8740

This warranty is supplied by Misco on behalf of WD"

So we need to pay for a courier to come collect it, and WD will pay for the return courier.

At the risk of sounding stupid here - are Misco allowed to do this? The narky guy at Misco was quite convinced they were. It's the first time I've ever encountered this.

Would have thought they would be nice enough to mention they were the RMA agents anyway but otherwise it's fine. The people you call at Misco might not be part of the same Misco WD are referring to other than an umbrella name. Just have to go through the process I'm afraid. The postage bit is typical and legal, although I would fight quite hard to get them to pay at all costs ;)

Do you have an account manager? You'd be better speaking to them if you do than some customer service bod. Ultimately if you struggle with WD you bought the product from Misco so they should get involved if your having difficulties.

We had a similar problem with a BenQ monitor, Misco directed us to BenQ who then refused to accept the fault etc etc, ended up Misco got involved and sorted it for us with them.

Come to think of it recently Misco forwarded me to Asus regarding missing parts from some EEEBox PC's I bought for a school. Asuis told me Misco were responsible for packaging, Misco told me Asus - pillar to post :( In the end Misco took responsibility and dealt with it.

Dealt with a few returns with Misco recently, no problems at all. Quite common to have to deal with the manufacturers - got some new motherboards for a couple HPs which was pretty painless. I've used WD's returns system before - it was excellent.
