PHP Versions

I have recently built a new webserver on Ubuntu 10.10.

 

I was on PHP version 2.11.1 and now on 3.3.7. I understand that there is no way to import a database from 2.11.1 to 3.3.7 is that correct? If that is the case does anyone have any ideas or is it a rebuild of my Joomla & Moodle from scratch?

I doubt that very much; PHP major version 2 has not been in production in years now. You mean 5.3.3-1ubuntu9.1.

Ubuntu 10.10 ships PHP version 5.3.3-1ubuntu9, and if you have updated recently you've got 5.3.3-1ubuntu9.1. End of.

Firstly moodle/joomla requires php 4+ I believe (check by making a something.php file with phpinfo(); ?> in it to see the details)

If its using a mysql database its easy to move the db. Just use a program such as heidisql to connect to the servers database and export to an sql file. On your new server connect and run the sql file you just made against it and it should create the databases (check the relevant boxes when exporting)

Next you have to manually create the user accounts on your new server and setup permissions to allow the account to access the db. Move the php files and see if it works (update connection server name if its not localhost in the moodle/joomla config file)

Right, now I understand. This isn't at all related to Joomla, Moodle or PHP then.

The file you've exported isn't a SQL file. That snippet is the top of a web page, so something has gone badly wrong in your export.
