Its a free network mapper. Not particularly innovative but does give you an almost instant map of whats up or down. It has some other toys built in and TBH is quite funky.

3com Network Supervisor is my preferred tool... and no, you don't need 3com switches! And yes, it is free!

Looks good to me for a little app that is.

Its just looking through my network at the mo' i wonder how the firewalls and stuff will treat this as it must be some kind of sniffer right?

Well it found my D-Link APs and HP printers without any problems. I've also found three devices which have web interfaces containing a Java applet but I have no idea what or where they are!

HP network printers probably, ive got a few 2200s and they run java web interface admin

Nope - the printers all came up separately (4000s, 4050s, 4150s, Business Inkjet 1100s and 1200s) and these random things appear to have static IPs (they are in an excluded range).

 

I'm wondering if it's something to do with the phone system.

@Geoff: A grand idea! I've found out that they are Barix embedded devices - since I have none of these the Barix chipsets must be embedded in something - probably the Avaya kit.

80 and 9999 (Java web interface which has no descriptive stuff and an 'octet stream') - Barix Exstreamers are MP3 streaming devices so my presumption isn't unfounded.

You just register under the help menu.. and you are sent a licence key by email..

 

Checked further and officially under the terms of the licence you must have at least one 3com network product but I do (just one!) and I'm sure many others would have too... or just buy a second hand switch from ebay maybe...?!
