RabbieBurns Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 ... that you'll all have to put up with at least another 3 years worth of me gloating about the australian sun, sea and sangria.. Got news this week that Ive been approved for a Temporary Business (Long Stay) - Standard Business Sponsorship (Subclass 457) visa which is valid for 3 years... so big thanks to my employers for sorting that for me. Was currently on a Working Holiday Visa, having arrived here in April '09 with nothing more than a backpack and delusions of granduer. Picked up a job in a School last October on a 1 month contract, so I must have done something right to have kept getting it extended. RabbieBurns is one happy chappy!
RabbieBurns Posted November 20, 2010 Author Posted November 20, 2010 Cheers! Been unable to work for them since the middle of September due to constraints on the previous visa, so looking forward to starting back on Monday... just at the right time too. Rather than sit at home and conserve, Ive blitzed through my savings on a trip back to scotland and other holidays round australia, so the first paycheck is more than welcome!
GrumbleDook Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Nice one! My brother keeps trying to persuade me and the better half that it would be a good move for us too. Good luck with it all. 1
RabbieBurns Posted November 20, 2010 Author Posted November 20, 2010 Thanks! Is your brother out here already?
laserblazer Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Another potential floor to kip on when I take my gap year
GrumbleDook Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Thanks! Is your brother out here already? He's been in Melbourne for about 15 years now. We went over for his wedding last Christmas / New Year. He owns a business in sports management, so Oz is perfect for him. The number of sports venues in Melbourne alone is amazing.
RabbieBurns Posted November 20, 2010 Author Posted November 20, 2010 Its no wonder this country is so dominant in world sports with the amount of sports venues.. And the majority of them are free, state run facilities too. For example, I play football on a bit of parklands on a tuesday evening, and its kept like a bowling green by the council, and the floodlights just have a simple on/off switch for anyone to use them.. In scotland we had red clay/ash football parks with junkies needles and broken glass on them..
laserblazer Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 There are more 50m pools in the Wogga Wogga area than the whole of the uk :
rad Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Congrats to you. I know a few people in Oz, mainly OH family. Got a bed if we ever go over there.
elsiegee40 Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Nice one! OH has a 4 year visa granted for working out there, but due to the age of our teenagers moving out there is just not an option. Exactly the wrong timing for their GCSEs and A levels.
TwoZeroAlpha Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Congrats Rabbie, crack open a cold one, whack another shrimp on the barbie and enjoy yourself.
localzuk Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Congrats. I keep eyeing Oz myself, but need to get my finances cleared up before I do it properly.
p858snake Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Congrats I guess..... now whats the number for that terrorism hotline *whistles* (joking... or am i)
bobkerr Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 Well done mate. Must be the Scottish ancestry ... that you'll all have to put up with at least another 3 years worth of me gloating about the australian sun, sea and sangria.. 1
vikpaw Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 well done on staying international good luck with it all. so does that mean that you will get an extended contract with the school now, it will be nice to have some security. 1

Just need to look out my work clothes now, its been a long 2 months off, i think ive worn boardies the whole time ;p
vikpaw Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 isn't the uniform just boardies and zandals in oz...? 1
MK-2 Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 seriously, how are you not burnt to a crisp yet. surely the jump from minus 30 degrees in Scottish summer to +1 million for Aussie summer must get to you? Or are you still using Irn Bru as suntan lotion? 1
RabbieBurns Posted November 22, 2010 Author Posted November 22, 2010 So glad Ive finally found irn-bru, i wuoldnt waste it as sunscreen.. I guess I was made for this climate! Slowly getting a bit browner, will look good against the white snow when Im back for xmas ;p
