Little-Miss Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Well as i dont want to fork out £500 for an iPad i was wondering if anyone out there was using something else. I've currently been looking at some Archos Tablets that run Android, they're priced just under £200. They get a lot of complaints about the touch screen not being too responsive but what do they expect for that price!! Anyhoo, any suggetions? 1
jamin100 Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 what about a 2nd had ipad as you know it'll be under a year old and still in warranty... plus you could always buy applecare if you needed to ... i recently picked up a 16GB wifi version for £350
dhicks Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Well as i dont want to fork out £500 for an iPad The Advent Vega was due out at PC World yesterday, seemingly - £250. The advantage of PC World is that you can, at least, try out the touch screen before you buy. -- David Hicks

pritchardavid Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 There is a windows 7 tablet slate selling at novatech, can't remember what the price was through Might be worth a look!
GrumbleDook Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Considering getting an Advent Vega to compare it to the iPad in one of our school based projects. The problems with proxy settings though might be an issue (as they were with the iPad until we tested 4.2)
mattx Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 What did you get in the end Little-Miss ? I was going to get an iPad [ don't fall off your chair ] - but on checking, getting to print from it seems a bit of a hassle - I am now looking at possible alternatives.
tech_guy Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 I can print wirelessly to my HP printer. PITA anything else though.
mattx Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Looks like it won't be an ipad then. I wonder if I will be able to print from an Android based tablet.......
Little-Miss Posted March 5, 2011 Author Posted March 5, 2011 That i did. Never tried printing from it to be honest.

mattx Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 (edited) All I want is a tablet that will let me install Firefox, allow me to print from it [ without having to go through google's cloud printing thingymebob or something else ] display word documents and play some flash. It seems to me there is not a unit that can actually do these basic requirements [ that's NOT windows 7 ] - now someone tell me I'm wrong. Edited March 5, 2011 by mattx
LosOjos Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Might be worth giving this a try on an Android phone (or tablet if you know someone with one): Mobile Printing I know it's cloud, but it says you can print directly over wifi too without sending to the cloud. If it works, then Android meets all your requirements 1
GREED Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 ePad. The more I use it the more I am liking it!!! BUTTTTT... What do you really want/need it for, that is the thing I have stumbled on now. I use it for browsing and twiter/FB/LinkedIn etc, and display of pictures/pdfs and work.
tech_guy Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 You get £45 HP cashback on the HP LaserJet Pro CP1525n Colour Printer. I'm still waiting to see if I get 7% cashback for going through Quidco as well. If I do the printer cost me £140 as opposed to nearly £200.
