Tricky_Dicky Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 Hi, We have 3 classes per year group which work on the same topic at the same time and as such would like to share resources. I've just been asked if there is a way to setup a quiz once in one course and then import/insert it in to the other courses. Does anyone know if this can be done? Rich
danbuntu Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 one approach to this is to use a metacourse. so say to you have biology 1,2 and 3 you'd then have a 4th course and assign the other three to it. All members of the first 3 would have access to the forth and have a gradebook in it. Take a look the docs on moodle.org for more information
Devontechie Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 The questions can be exported, but dont think the Quiz can be exported. It is easy to export the questions and import them back into another quiz. Go into the Quiz Click Edit Then Export Select the file format. I normally use Moodle XML format Select the right category from the list Click Export to file At the bottom of the next page, click download exported category file To import the question: Create a new quiz Click Edit Then Import Select the same file format as you did for the export Browse to the downloaded file Click Upload Then click Continue on the next screen. Hope that helps 1
Tricky_Dicky Posted November 9, 2010 Author Posted November 9, 2010 That's great, cheers for that. I'm trying to convince the teachers to use Hot Potato quizes because then when it's saved they can just import it on to which ever course they want.

Only thing with Hot Potatoes is that you can't see the scores from it. At least with a quiz the results are saved and you can view all the students that have taken it
secretlife Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 (edited) Only thing with Hot Potatoes is that you can't see the scores from it. At least with a quiz the results are saved and you can view all the students that have taken it You CAN see all the scores with Hot Potatoes - that's the point of using it in Moodle You need to upload the quiz (which can be in draft or htm format) to the Hotpot quiz section of the "add a an activity" drop down in a course and then the scores are automatically sent to the Moodle gradebook. If you don't have add an activity>hotpotato quiz then it needs to have its "eye" opened in site admin>modules>activities>manage activities. Oh and tricky_dicky - have you had a look at using groups in Moodle? If the classes are all doing the same then there is no need for 3 courses (or metacourses) -they can all do the same course but have their grades separated in the gradebook into their relevant groups. Tricky_Dicky Posted November 9, 2010 Author Posted November 9, 2010 Cheers for the info on that. We have looked at groups, but even though each teacher is doing a similar thing they like to have separate classes so they can have different discussions and things like that. Rich

t-july Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 It can be done by copying course or by importing quiz in Moodle XML format. And I don't recommend to prepare quiz in Hott Potatoes because there are some restrictions in Moodle. I think the best format for quiz is Moodle. There are a lot of templates to convert from text to Moodle XML or you can try online converter at moodle.site5.com
Tricky_Dicky Posted November 15, 2010 Author Posted November 15, 2010 Sharing Cart will also do this...(Think you have to add a new quiz role from what I remember?) Cheers Frosty, have just installed and enabled that and it is working really well
